Breon Ansley has his eyes on a new bodybuilding division. On November 13, 2024, Ansley discussed placing fifth at the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia and expressed interest in a move to the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding division.
Breon Ansley is a former two-time Classic Physique Olympia champion. Not only does he understand the demands necessary to reach the top of the sport, but he knows how to retain gold as one of the best Classic athletes on the planet.
At the 2024 Mr. Olympia event, Ansley secured fifth place but thought he deserved a top-three finish. In light of the performance, he is unsure if he’ll remain in the Classic Physique category. He planned to move into the 212 division before but had a change of heart. Now, it looks like he’s reconsidering that position.

“Fifth place is what we got at Olympia and that is not what I wanted. It’s not what I wanted and it’s not what I intended to grab as far as placings are concerned. So, there was a bit of disappointment there,” he shared. “I think that I fell somewhere around third place.”
Ansley is ‘leaning towards the 212 division’ to ‘allow my muscle to see its true potential.’
“I’m leaning towards the 212 division. I’m leaning in that direction. I don’t know if I’ll actually make the decision for 212 but I’m definitely leaning in that direction to allow my muscle to see its true potential.
I was 197 on stage guys. So I’ll probably be in the 212 if I compete next year and then somewhere in the 202-204 range which will be a vast difference.”
Although he brought his legs up, Ansley plans to grow his physique further to possibly fit into the 212 class on the horizon. He hasn’t given up on reclaiming the Classic Physique Olympia throne either.
“I thought my legs were better than ever as far as fullness. I thought they have been the best they’ve been in like five years, 2018-2019 when I won it. I’m pretty happy about that,” he adds. “I will continue to grow them especially if I go to the 212.”
“If I compete in Classic again next year, still confident still that I can win it. Still confident that I can win it with tweaks here and there, better conditioning, a smaller waist. I know I can obtain those things. Even if I decide to compete in the 212 division, I feel I can compete right away in the 212 division and be very competitive on the Olympia level.”
To be competitive in the 212, he understands that another two to four pounds of quality muscle tissue will be necessary.
“I would like to put on maybe two to four pounds of quality muscle tissue for the 212 division to be right where I want to be in the sweet spot for being very competitive for a title.”
If Ansley does choose to stick around in Classic Physique, he won’t have to worry about Chris Bumstead next year. ‘Cbum’ announced his retirement from the division following his 2024 Olympia victory. Days after his sixth title defense, Bumstead revealed that he was moving into the Men’s Open and competing at the 2024 Prague Pro November 16-17.
Boasting one of the best backs regardless of divisions, Breon Ansley would likely fit right in with the upper echelon of the 212 class. Time will tell if he opts to switch categories and map out a title run in the near future.
