Hafthor Bjornsson is undoubtedly one of the strongest people to ever walk the earth, and even after many years of performing exceptional feats of strength, he still manages to reach new heights. That was the case recently, as Hafthor managed to deadlift 460 kilograms (1,014.1 pounds) for two repetitions in training, thus setting a new PR. He shared the lift on Instagram, showing that the preparation for his upcoming World Record attempt is going perfectly.
In order to perform the lift, Hafthor Bjornsson put on a deadlift suit, lifting belt, and a pair of lifting straps. He then used his smelling salts to get a wave of energy and prepare for the challenge. Once that was done, Hafthor was ready to commence the lift.
Hafthor Bjornsson performed the lift with a conventional stance, as sumo is prohibited in the sport of Strongman. He rolled the bar toward himself and completed one rep with unbelievable speed. Hafthor then put the bar down for a moment before proceeding to crush the second rep as well. It seemed like Hafthor was capable of continuing the set but decided to stop and follow his training plan.
“Lifetime PB 460kg for reps. 15 days out from 510kg WORLD RECORD!”

Hafthor Bjornsson’s deadlift power is at an all-time high currently, as just weeks have passed since he set a new 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) Deadlift World Record at the 2025 Eisenhart Black Competition. However, the conditions were not ideal on the day, which is why Hafthor wants to push the record further at the 2025 World Deadlift Championships. The competition will take place on September 6th in Birmingham, England, where Hafthor will try to deadlift 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds).
The Deadlift World Record is arguably the most coveted achievement in all of strength sports, and it has reached that status largely thanks to Hafthor Bjornsson and Eddie Hall. They are the only two men who managed to deadlift half a ton in a competition, but it did not come without complications. For a long time, Eddie did not respect Hafthor’s 501-kilogram (1,104.5-pound) Deadlift World Record, which resulted in a massive feud between the two and, ultimately, a boxing match.
Hafthor Bjornsson was more successful in the boxing ring, beating Eddie Hall after a unanimous decision from the judges. Following that, Hafthor decided to return to Strongman, but suffered a severe pec tear in the process. After a long recovery journey, Hafthor got back to his best and advanced the deadlift record to 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds). Eddie Hall acknowledged this achievement and congratulated Hafthor.
Apart from his deadlift journey, Hafthor Bjornsson is also adding new Strongman titles to his resume. He has taken part in 83 competitions in total and won 42 so far, including the World’s Strongest Man, as well as multiple Arnold Strongman Classics, Europe’s Strongest Man, and Iceland’s Strongest Man competitions.
Although a large part of the 2025 Strongman season has passed already, Hafthor Bjornsson still has a lot of plans remaining. Apart from going for the Deadlift World Record, he is also expected to compete in the 2025 Giants Live Strongman Open and the 2025 Rogue Invitational. So, depending on how the upcoming few months go, Hafthor could achieve some significant accomplishments and continue to prove that he is one of the greatest Strongmen in history.
