Hunter Labrada has emerged as a prominent figure in bodybuilding and it isn’t simply because of his famous lineage. In a recent YouTube video, Hunter Labrada opened up about his thoughts on creatine, and his current training split for the 2024 season.
Hunter Labrada is following in the footsteps of his father, legendary bodybuilder Lee Labrada, who, during his career, went toe-to-toe with the best of the Men’s Open in the 1980s and 90s. While it may seem daunting to come after one so talented, Hunter Labrada has taken it in stride and established himself as a formidable opponent on the bodybuilding stage.
Last year, Hunter Labrada earned a sixth-place finish on the 2023 Mr. Olympia stage. This year, he is working harder than ever to improve to a top-five position. With hours of intense workouts at the gym, Labrada has made vast improvements to his back and arms that have contributed positively to his overall symmetry.

Recently, Labrada revealed in a YouTube video that he would answer fans’ questions in a Q&A weekly. Hunter Labrada addressed his thoughts on the popular supplement creatine, his current training split, and his ambitions for this year’s Mr. Olympia.
Hunter Labrada went over how he felt about the popular supplement creatine, where he revealed the ideal dose is five grams, which over time will help increase strength and hydration in the muscles.
“Creatine is an awesome supplement. Creatine is one of those tried and true, been around for forever, and key point, has a ton of clinical research behind it. It is very safe. It is very effective and all of the studies that have been done on it are typically done on a five-gram dose.”
Labrada explains that studies have been conducted and believes exceeding five grams per day won’t net any extra benefits.
“The reason being is creatine is something that actually saturates in your muscles. Once you reach that point of saturation, it’s literally like pouring water in a cup that’s already full. It’s just not going to take in any more water no matter how much you pour in there” Hunter Labrada added.
“Once you get that five grams daily for I think two or three weeks, I forget what the study says, you’ll reach that point of saturation. Reaching that point of saturation is going to give you increases in strength, it’s going to give you increases in muscle mass and it’s going to increase the hydration in your muscles, all of which are good things.”
Next, Hunter Labrada went over his current modified push-pull-legs training split.
“I’m training four days a week on a modified push-pull split. So, the modified push-pull isn’t something new for me, been training like that for a long time now, what is new for me is the amount of rest that I’m taking.”
He takes two days off after each leg day workout.
“Currently training push-pull, taking a day off, training arms, training legs, and then taking two days off after legs. It was a little hard to do at first, but it’s one of those things, trust the process as they always say. I feel so much better having that extra day in in terms of recovering and my progress in the gym is actually sped up. I’m growing quicker and I feel better.”
Finally, Hunter Labrada discussed his plans for the rapidly approaching 2024 Mr. Olympia where he is simply focusing on qualifying first.
“My plan for this year’s Mr. O is to qualify for it first. So, yeah, not one of those people to count their chickens before they hatch. Open Bodybuilding is very competitive and I need to qualify first. So I’m focusing on qualifying first.”
Hunter Labrada isn’t the only one talking about the benefits of creatine. Bodybuilding great Arnold Schwarzenegger has recently shared in his Arnold’s Pump Club newsletter multiple studies that reveal creatine to help with sleep deprivation, improved cognitive performance, and better muscle gains. However, Schwarzenegger emphasizes that not all creatine is created equal and to maximize the benefits, creatine monohydrate is the best option.
“There’s just one problem. Many people are taking the wrong type of creatine. Research overwhelmingly suggests that creatine monohydrate is the safest most effective and most absorbed form of creatine. Everything else is fighting for second place” Schwarzenegger said.
While Hunter Labrada still needs to qualify for this year’s Mr. Olympia, his ambitions, strategies, and preparations for this prestigious event will undoubtedly capture fans’ attention, sparking anticipation and excitement for his future performance on stage.
