Hunter Labrada’s Arm Workout
- Preacher Curl
- Cable Cuff Tricep Extension
- Step-Forward Cable Bicep Curls
- Overhead Tricep Extensions
Preacher Curl
Hunter Labrada started the workout off by going into preacher curls explaining that the upper arm needs to be braced and supported.
“First up, for arm day is going to be a preacher curl whether it’s a machine or dumbbell it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll alternate between the sessions. Today it’s going to be a dumbbell.”
“Bracing, that’s why we are doing a preacher curl because we want it braced. So, we have our upper arm braced into that pad throughout the whole motion. We never want our upper arm coming off this pad.”
“The worst thing that you can do is sit here and have the point of fulcrum be your elbows. So, we are braced by having that whole upper arm pressed into that pad.”
Cable Cuff Triceps Extension
Next, Labrada moved into cable cuff tricep extensions where he shared a tip on how to be courteous in a public gym by simply doing one arm at a time.
“A little tip that makes a huge difference on this exercise and then because I’ve shared these before and people always have to bitch about something, yes, I realize you’re tying up the whole cable stack to do these two arms at a time, if you train in a busy public gym in the afternoon and you don’t want to be a dick, do it with one arm, imagine that” Labrada shared.
Step-forward Cable Bicep Curls
With the step-forward cable bicep curls, Labrada emphasized the importance of form:
“When you do the curl, we want to keep our elbow back there,” adds Labrada. “We don’t want to do the curl by doing this [going forward]. There should be very little upper arm motion.”
Overhead Tricep Extensions
Finally, Hunter Labrada moved to overhead tricep extensions where he once again drove in the significance of maintaining good posture and proper form.
“I’ve been playing around with it a lot and I have kind of arrived that I like it as low as I can get it while still being able to have like a full range of motion. It’s not like bottoming out.”
“We’re pivoting angling at the hips and then I’m thinking about really letting it pull our upper back thoracic spine into extension and pull our upper arms as far as we can get them up and keeping that body posture, getting into an extension and every rep really letting it stretch and pull up while keeping your core active. So, we’re getting a stretch through our scapula and shoulders and everything.”
Last year, Labrada bounced back in what he called a ‘slingshot’ season. This campaign started with a resounding victory at the 2023 Tampa Pro. From there, Labrada wasted no time in asserting himself as a top contender at the Texas Pro but was unable to deliver gold against Andrew Jacked. At his last Mr. Olympia competition, Labrada took home sixth place, a promising sign of what is to come on the horizon.
This year, fans will have to wait to see what Hunter Labrada will bring to the stage. While he hasn’t announced what show he will be doing yet, one thing is for sure, Labrada will be bringing his A-game and you won’t want to miss it.
