January 2024 has been a fantastic month for Jesus Olivares, hitting new milestones every week. The most recent sign of his improvement came in the squat event, where Jesus locked out 475 kilograms (1,047.2 pounds) for an all-time raw PR. He shared the lift to Instagram on January 29th, and displayed one of the heaviest squats ever seen.

Jesus Olivares gathered up three spotters for his 475-kilogram (1,047.2-pound) squat attempt, one of whom was his younger brother Pablo. Luckily, none of them needed to put in any help for Jesus, as he crushed the lift with just a lifting belt and a pair of knee sleeves on.

Being his first time squatting 475 kilograms (1,047.2 pounds), it was clear that Jesus felt tremendous pressure under the bar. So, he took a few short steps backwards, widened his feet to a comfortable position, and braced for the lift.

The tension in the gym grew as Jesus started lowering the 475-kilogram (1,047.2-pound) barbell down, but his control of the speed made it clear that he was capable of ascending back up with the weight on his back. So, a few seconds later, Jesus found himself in a locked out position and with a new all-time PR under his belt.

The Squat All-Time World Record is undoubtedly one of, if not the most prestigious, achievements in the world of strength sports. It is currently in the possession of Ray Williams, who lifted 490 kilograms (1,080.3 pounds) at the 2019 USAPL Arnold SBD Pro American. However, Jesus Olivares is now approaching that impressive mark as well and is the only athlete in the world who has the potential to break the record.

With 12 days left until the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, Jesus Olivares will perform a few more training sessions in the hopes of optimizing all aspects of his performance. He emerged as the winner of last year’s IPF Sheffield and is hoping to do the same this year again.

If Jesus Olivares does win the 2024 IPF Sheffield, he will claim a hefty chunk of the £445,000 (~$564,000) prize purse. However, for every World Record that he breaks, Jesus will receive an additional £5,000 (~$6,340). So, seeing how he has set new deadlift, squat, and bench press personal records in training, Jesus is set to have the best competition of his life.

No one except Ray Williams has ever squatted more than 470 kilograms (1,036.2 pounds) in an official competition. So, if Jesus can replicate his new PR at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, he will make history as the second person to exceed the aforementioned milestone.
