Jeff Nippard, a science-based fitness coach, continues to offer his fans easy-to-understand workout information. In his latest offering, he opened up on four exercises that build the quads, all of which emphasize a deep stretch.

With over four million subscribers on YouTube, Jeff Nippard’s notoriety swelled among fitness and bodybuilding enthusiasts thanks to his comprehensive and evidence-backed approach. As a natural bodybuilding sensation, Nippard won the Junior Mr. Canada title and the 2014 WNBF Natural Muscle Mayhem overall championship.

Quick Breakdown

  • Smith machine squats with long-length partials
  • Reverse Nordics
  • Sissy Squats
  • Smith machine deficit split squats

“These are four super effective quad exercises you probably don’t know about that all emphasize a deep stretch.”

Smith machine squats with long-length partials

Nippard advises lifters to avoid going too heavy on this exercise.

“First, Smith machine squats with a twist; do long-length partials on every rep that means you stay in the bottom half the whole time. These are tough so don’t go too heavy the first time.”

Reverse Nordics

For reverse Nordics, Nippard explains that this movement allows the practitioner to go much deeper than what is possible with a leg extension machine.

“Second, reverse Nordics. These let you go much deeper than any leg extension machine will. Loop a band around a squat rack kneel down and lean back while keeping your hips straight. Go as low as you comfortably can and squeeze your quads to lift yourself up. Switch to body weight once you’re strong enough,” shared Jeff Nippard.

Sissy Squats

Nippard said not to worry about the knees traveling forward during sissy squats.

“Third, sissy squats. Don’t let the name fool you, these are hard. Grab a cable for balance and as you lean back come up on to your toes and let your knees travel forward. Don’t worry, studies show this won’t hurt your knees it will make them stronger.”

Smith machine deficit split squats

As a finisher, Nippard recommended Smith machine deficit split squats despite their apparent difficulty.

“Fourth, Smith machine deficit split squats. Save these for when you have some serious demons to fight.”

Whether you intend to tax the lower body or achieve a shredded six-pack, Jeff Nippard has the answer. And even though he made a career out of competing naturally, Nippard has also taken a vested interest in discussing the science behind performance-enhancing drugs.

He has joined prolific fitness personalities for interviews such as Mike Israetel, who holds a Ph.D. in sports psychology, and Derek of the More Plates More Dates YouTube channel to tackle these matters.

Nippard’s informative content which is free to the consumer, greatly benefits the fitness and bodybuilding community. Nippard underlined that all four of the movements he selected are ideal for achieving a deep stretch while building the quads.
