The Deadlift World Record holds a place of utmost prestige in both Strongman and Strongwoman sports. The battle for the record in the women’s division was taking place for years, until Lucy Underdown came up on the scene and moved the mark so high up that no one could even approach it. However, as the sport evolved in the past few years, some athletes began inching towards the record. So, Lucy decided to dig deep once more and further improve it at the 2023 Giants Live World Deadlift Championships. She ended up locking out 318 kilograms (701 pounds), which is now the new Deadlift World Record.
Lucy Underdown came into the World Deadlift Championships as a guest lifter among 14 other men. She received an invitation to this event because the organizers acknowledged her potential for an extraordinary lift. She did not disappoint in the slightest, but instead performed the greatest lift in Strongwoman history so far.
Lucy Underdown had to deadlift with a conventional stance, since sumo is not allowed in the sport. Moreover, she used a pair of lifting wraps and a lifting belt, seemingly opting out not to use a deadlift suit despite it being allowed. However, she did not need the suit to successfully complete the 318 kilograms (701 pounds) deadlift, since her perfect technique and immense strength were more than enough.
The previous World Record stood at exactly 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds), which Lucy Underdown set as a guest lifter at the 2021 UK’s Strongest Man contest.

Lucy Underdown recently also set a World Record on another variation of the deadlift which utilized the longer and more flexible Kratos Barbell. She did so by locking out 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds) at 2023 UK’s Strongest Woman competition. Shortly after, Lucy shared some new deadlift PRs in training, where her one rep max came out to 310 kilograms.
Lucy Underdown’s old record was also recently in danger, as Victoria Long managed to lift 297 kilograms (654.8 pounds) at the 2023 Kaos Classic Record Breakers. Victoria then attempted to lift 700 pounds (317.5 kilograms), but got injured in the process. However, what Victoria was not able to do, Lucy now accomplished.
