Bodybuilder Martin Fitzwater is finally taking a breather after a busy 2024 contest schedule. On November 23, 2024, he shared a tip for establishing a better chest connection while performing the chest fly.
After flying under the radar in 2023, Martin Fitzwater made his return to the stage at the 2024 Detroit Pro. He defeated surging star Vitaliy ‘Good Vito’ Ugolnikov and Ronald Gordon en route to gold. While this guaranteed him an Olympia qualification, Fitzwater was determined to test himself against Nick Walker at the New York Pro.
Despite initially being counted out, Fitzwater’s symmetry and muscle fullness contrasted well against ‘The Mutant.’ Although he wasn’t able to nab the victory, ‘The Martian’ came close, securing a second-place finish. He nailed his peak during his debut performance at the 2024 Mr. Olympia, taking fourth place, surpassing top names in the category like Andrew Jacked and Hunter Labrada.
Fitzwater then committed to the 2024 EVLS Prague Pro, which happened to be Chris Bumstead‘s next stop after earning a sixth consecutive Classic Physique Olympia title. While Bumstead impressed in the one-off Open show, he was unable to conquer the sheer density and muscle thickness of Fitzwater, who clinched his ticket to the 2025 Mr. Olympia early. With time to sit back and relax, Fitzwater is still keeping fans in the loop with training tips.

Bodybuilder Martin Fitzwater Explains How He Incorporates the Chest Fly to Build Better ‘Chest Connection’
In a YouTube shorts video, Fitzwater laid out how to build chest connection by using the chest fly. He emphasized that they elongate fibers in the chest the most and provide the biggest stretch, which allows for the longest contraction. Altogether, these factors contribute to better mind-muscle connection.
“Quick tip to build your chest connection. I start every chest workout with flys. Flys elongate the fibers in your chest the most, giving you the biggest stretch, therefore giving you the longest contraction and building that mind-to-muscle connection better than most exercises.”
After he finishes with chest flys, Fitzwater prefers to utilize heavier compound movements to assist with muscle breakdown.
“After flys, I always go into a heavy compound movement to really get that muscle breakdown after stretching the fibers out,” he adds.
Martin Fitzwater has youth on his side and given his muscularity as well as his latest Olympia performance, he appears to have a bright future in the sport. The next time you hit chest at the gym, give his chest fly tips a try for a better mind-muscle connection.
