We all understand how crucial the lower body is in bodybuilding, it helps create the all-important X-frame and gives balance to a physique. That is why Milos Sarcev took it upon himself to examine whether or not the modern top 10 Open class talents in the world boast feathered quads.
Feathered quads are a must at the elite bodybuilding level. They often separate the greats from the all-time legends. As was the case with former four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, who earned the nickname ‘The Comeback Kid,’ courtesy of his epic come-from-behind victory at the 2009 Mr. Olympia, where he quad-stomped his way to triumph against Branch Warren and Dexter Jackson.
Milos Analyzes Whether Top 10 Open Bodybuilders In The World Have Feathered Quads
Considering the importance of feathered quads in a competition capacity, Milos Sarcev, a world-renowned bodybuilding coach, went through the best bodybuilders in the league to determine who sports them today.
“Top 10 guys, who has feathered quads? I mean feathered quads,” asks Dennis James.
“Let’s go one by one. Derek does not really have the feathers. He has quite good separation,” said Sarcev. “Not on the stage, Dennis says on the stage. Hadi Choopan is ripped to pieces but doesn’t really have the feathers. Samson does have, he does. I’ve seen them.”
“On Instagram,” said Chris Cormier.

They acknowledged that Andrew Jacked impresses with feathered quads.
“Okay, fourth was Andrew Jacked. He does. Fifth was Brandon Curry, he doesn’t. Hunter Labrada…no. Seventh was Krizo, no,” said Sarcev.
“So okay, that’s what I’m saying,” Dennis James.
“Eighth was [Tonio] Burton. I haven’t seen Antonio I didn’t.”
“Regan has feathers. He does have to lock deeply,” adds Sarcev.
Sarcev explained the challenge of displaying cross-striations across quads on stage versus for an Instagram picture.
“In the gym and on Instagram it’s so much easier to hold that leg a couple of seconds but when you’re on a stage and the adrenaline is kicking in, you have to stay tight and they forget about all this. I’m not saying they don’t have them, I’m just saying that aren’t showing them.”
Quad development, while genetic in some respects, is still a notable attribute bodybuilders train to bring their best physique to the stage, and that includes reigning Mr. Olympia winner Derek Lunsford who has focused on his quad training during his latest off-season.
Even though Milos Sarcev doesn’t believe feathered quads are extremely common among athletes on stage, he doesn’t deny that bodybuilders of today’s era possess them; they simply aren’t showing them adequately on stage.
