Nick Walker, a thriving Men’s Open threat in the IFBB Pro League, continues to make strides for his next competition. In a recent Mutant and the Mouth Podcast, Walker opened up on cardio and diet for the 2024 New York Pro, scheduled for May 18.

As a Men’s Open Pro, Nick Walker‘s rise up the ranks has turned heads constantly. He boasts the qualities of a mass monster, thanks to his hulking size, huge muscles, and bursting fullness. Walker’s fanfare has remained sky-high since emerging as a bodybuilding star.

In his very first Mr. Olympia contest in 2021, ‘The Mutant’ lived up to the hype and placed fifth in his debut. He took the entire 2022 off-season to map out a game plan for his next Olympia outing. Ultimately, his preparation paid off as he returned to the sport’s biggest stage to claim third place, behind Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan.

Aiming to win the 2023 Arnold Classic, Walker took on Samson Dauda in an epic clash, and while the contest was close, Dauda’s shape, symmetry, and proportions guided him to success as ‘The Mutant’ ended the show as a runner-up finisher.

Undeterred by the setback, Walker envisioned himself earning the Sandow trophy. However, days before getting his chance to shine on the 2023 Olympia stage, the Open star suffered a calf and hamstring tear, which prompted his withdrawal from the marquee event.

Nick Walker Prepares For The 2024 New York Pro, Shares His Diet and Training Regimen

Having healed on the sidelines, Walker intends to make another statement when he competes at the nearing New York Pro in May. During a recent Mutant and the Mouth Podcast, Nick Walker shared his cardio routine and diet leading into the event.

“I’m 284 on the dot this morning.”

“Actually yeah, I feel like training is starting to come into its own. We’re not really pushing cardio. I found with me right now, it’s not the how long I do it for, it’s the intensity for which I do it for can backfire on me. I think that’s just because I train in a very hard and instinctive way. You know, cardio can backfire.”

Specifically, Walker performs 25-30 minutes of cardio daily, consisting of treadmill, Stairmaster, or elliptical work.

“We do about 25 minutes to a half hour, and I either, I just walk on the treadmill or just do the stairs at level two,” said Walker.

Nick Walker reveals that he enjoys using the elliptical because it is an easy way to get his heart rate up.

“I love stairs. Believe it or not, I thoroughly enjoy it. I probably sound weird but I thoroughly enjoy the elliptical bro. I like the elliptical. You know what that is? I like cardio that can get my heart rate up fast without really going hard if that makes sense.”

“That’s what I’m saying, I don’t need resistance and I can kind of just, and then my heart rate goes up. With the bike, I feel like it takes a minute for my heart rate to get up.”

Nick Walker also talks about how he is using the treadmill along with stairs at a lower setting, keeping his cardio as simple as possible.

“Treadmill, a nice walk works for me now. Right now, I’m not really sweating because it’s fucking cold out. It’s not really happening at all but stairs is good. Literally bro, I stay at level 2 level 3, my heart rate gets really high and that’s all I need.”

“I think so, [I might be pushing 260 on stage at the New York Pro]. I’m not really holding a lot of water.”

Next, Nick broke down what his nutrition is looking like:

“We’re eating still a good amount of food. My fats are definitely over 100 grams. My carbs are I’d say a little over 500 and protein is probably around 300, 350. An off day, I’d say carbs go to like 350. Fats, fats go down a little bit, not much but a little bit.”

“Even on my low days now, that’s when I’ll drop. Then, right now, on my regular training days, I don’t really go up. I kind of just hold the weight. So, a lot of time when I do a re-feed I’ll lose a pound or two from it and then I’ll keep right now instead of going down more from dieting because we’re not dieting hard yet.”

In addition to Walker’s discussion, he recently shared a physique update.

“We just getting started” Walker wrote.

This hasn’t been Nick Walker’s first progress update for the 2024 New York Pro. Aiming to earn his Olympia qualification, Walker has opened up on his training and food allergies in the lead-up to his next contest obligation. In addition, he showcased his strength with a grueling back workout.

Nick Walker is one of the most popular IFBB Pros on the roster and fans are overjoyed to see him step back on stage. Given his past injuries, many are curious about how he will look at his next competition.
