Nick Walker Improving Back, Core, Quad Sweeps, and Filling Out Chest for 2024 Mr. Olympia: ‘I Will Be Number One This Year’

It’s going to be a dog fight at the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest, scheduled for October 10-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Among the top contenders is Nick Walker, who recently discussed his mentality alongside the improvements he’s made to his physique, which include a detailed back, tighter core, a more filled-out chest, and better quad sweeps.

Walker has lived up to his nickname ‘The Mutant’ since emerging as a blue-chip Men’s Open contender. Having conquered the Arnold Classic stage, Walker has unfinished business at the Mr. Olympia. Last year, he bowed out of the competition due to a catastrophic hamstring and calf tear. He watched in a wheelchair as his rival Derek Lunsford became the sport’s first two-division Mr. Olympia champion.

Instead of holding out hope for a special invitation, Walker bet on himself at the 2024 New York Pro in pursuit of a second title. In the end, he out-muscled Martin Fitzwater in an incredibly close contest to secure his ticket to Olympia. With his preparations underway, Walker gave fans a look into his mentality as he continues to improve his physique from top-to-bottom.

Nick Walker Discusses Winning Mentality, Shares How He Has Improved His Physique for 2024 Mr. Olympia

As we have come to realize, the physical and emotional demands of bodybuilding are immense. Nick Walker has enjoyed ups and downs in the sport just like his mental outlook.

“Mentally, I think my points I want to do is, I think I just want to get back to the old me and who I was. And getting back to enjoying bodybuilding again.

I think I lost that for a long time because I would say back when I started competing I had a good childlike passion for bodybuilding and I think once my name started to get super well known and I started winning and I became something big on social media quote unquote, I would say I forgot who I was.”

He admits to getting ‘wrapped up’ in social media but says he’s starting to feel like his old determined self once again.

“I forgot why I was even doing what  I love in the first place and I got wrapped up in social media. I got wrapped up in trying to be I think something that I wasn’t instead of just being me. And that’s something I’ve been working on. As of, I would say, honestly, a few months ago, I’m starting to feel that way again.”

To dominate the 2024 Mr. Olympia, Walker has built a bigger thicker back, a more filled-out chest, better quad sweeps, and a tighter core. He believes these improvements will lead to him becoming the 19th Mr. Olympia champion.

“The Arnold conditioning that I had with my Olympia of 2022 fullness with a bigger thicker detailed back. A more filled-out chest, and more quad sweep to my legs. Present a tighter core which I think all those are happening and I think I’m achieving all that right now.”

“I think I will be number one this year when I do that,” adds Walker.

Given the mental, financial, and physical demands of bodybuilding, anything less than a victory won’t be good enough for Walker.

“The end goal was to win and for me, there’s nothing to be proud of. I’m a winner. I’ve always been a winner. And that’s something I will teach anybody. If you lose, yeah, sure, you gave it all, but you failed. Now, you got to come back better.”

“I think why that hits when I lose it hits hard for me even more, because obviously, financially, they [my parents] sacrificed a lot for me to compete. How much bodybuilding really is, those that know, know, it ain’t some cheap shit. It’s a lot of time and it’s a lot of money. So when I know how much they are sacrificing, and then the end goal I don’t come out on top, it usually just takes a piece out of me every time,” shares Nick Walker.

If Nick Walker wants to lay claim to the 2024 Mr. Olympia title, he’ll have more than Derek Lunsford to contend with. He also has to get through the hard muscle density of Hadi Choopan, who acquired momentum this season with a pair of victories at the Arnold Classic Ohio and UK contests. Mass monster Samson Dauda will also make a bid for gold after moving his training preparations to Kuwait at the famous Oxygen Gyms location.

It appears Nick Walker is keen on bringing up the areas that have prevented him from the one title he’s in the hunt for. Don’t miss the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest in celebration of the organization’s 60th anniversary!
