At just 20 years old, Nonso Chinye has already reached an impressive status in the powerlifting community, being widely recognized as one of the strongest and most talented athletes in the world. He showcased his incredible ability to lift massive weights at the recent 2025 Avancus Houston Prime, which took place on October 11th. Nonso put up a remarkable performance and achieved Raw Deadlift & Total Unofficial IPF World Records.
Nonso Chinye competes in the IPF, which is a drug-tested division. Moreover, he is a raw lifter, which is why he only used a lifting belt and some chalk to perform his recent deadlift. While powerlifters are allowed to use different techniques, Nonso completed his lift with a conventional stance and a mixed grip.
Nonso Chinye wasted no time in his preparation, gripping the barbell, taking a deep breath, and immediately starting his pull for the 415.5-kilogram (916-pound) deadlift. The bar moved at a steady pace with no visible signs of struggle. Just seconds later, Nonso reached lockout, unofficially breaking the world record. He walked away nonchalantly, a clear indication he had more in the tank.
Nonso Chinye competes in the U120KG weight class, but his 415.5-kilogram (916-pound) deadlift is heavier than records across all weight classes. For reference, the heaviest deadlift ever performed in the IPF belongs to a +120KG competitor, Temur Samkharadze, who locked out 411 kilograms (906.1 pounds) at the 2024 IPF World Junior and Sub-Juniors Powerlifting Championships.
