To become ‘The King’ of bodybuilding, Ronnie Coleman had to master both the gym and the kitchen. In a recent YouTube video shared on September 2, 2024, Coleman showed his followers how to make grits and egg whites, a high-protein recipe he enjoyed both during his time as a Mr. Olympia champion and now in retirement.
Ronnie Coleman has gone down in bodybuilding history books as an absolute legend following his reign as an eight-time Mr. Olympia champion. His ability to perfect his physique with a combination of size, symmetry, and muscle density set him apart from his competitors, which included Jay Cutler and Flex Wheeler.
When preparing for the competitive stage, Coleman was known for his brutal training methods alongside an intense diet plan. In a previous interview, Ronnie Coleman discussed the ins and outs of his diet while competing, revealing he consumed over 600 grams of protein and he achieved this by eating a whole lot of red meat.
Ronnie Coleman Shares Famous Grits and Egg Whites Recipe He Used to Win Mr. Olympia 8 Times
Now, of course, Ronnie Coleman is enjoying the fruits of his labors in retirement but that doesn’t mean he has left his bodybuilding ways in the past. In a recent YouTube video, Coleman shared he will be starting a new segment showcasing his favorite recipes from when he was competing and even now after hanging up his trunks.

Coleman kickstarted his ‘Big Ron in the Kitchen’ series with his classic grit and egg white recipe.
“What up guys, Big Ron here and I got a new segment for my YouTube Channel. It’s called Big Ron in the kitchen. I got some recipes that I used to use back in the day as well as now and it’s Grits and Molly McButter but the cheese flavor, let’s jump into it. Yeah, Buddy!”

First, Coleman prepared the grits, which amounted to four packets, in addition to eye-balling the water needed.
“Okay, back in the day what I used to do is, I would use like, on here it says like four ounces, but that’s like a half a cup, I would take the package out and one of these packages is like one ounce so I would pour like four of these into this measuring cup so I could measure that out perfectly.
After that, I’m going to add some water to it and on the water thing, I kinda just eyeball it because I’ve been doing this for a long time and I know exactly how much water I use. I’ve always eyeballed it. So here we go.”
From there, Coleman revealed that the grits counted as 50 of his 125 allotted carbs for the day before cooking them in the microwave.
“Okay, back in the day I used this basically for my carbs because I had to measure exactly how many carbs I had each day and exactly how much protein I had each day so this is about 50 grams of carbs. I was only allowed about 125, so as you can see this is not very much carbs.”
“After that, I would put it in the microwave. Microwave it for about 10 minutes. Okay, I got the grits in the microwave and at first I do 10 minutes, now I’m going to press start and were going to roll, get our grits cooked up and ready to go.”
Next, he moved on to making the egg whites by cooking them in a skillet on the stove.
“While those are cooking, I’m going to get my egg whites ready. I measure out two cups of egg whites and all I did was pour them out of the container right into the measuring cup till we got to two cups and that’s about 25-30 grams of protein.”
“All right guys, I’ve got my skillet over here all heated up, right about medium level. All I do is just pour them in here, the skillet, and just cook em for about five to ten minutes, somewhere in there. However long it takes. I’m gonna let these heat up and just stir them around while they cookin, yeah buddy!”
While the egg whites are cooking he adds his Molly cheese, sharing that it is both low in calories and rich in flavor.
“Okay guys, while this is cooking up, I like to add a little Molly cheese in my egg whites. Molly cheese is low calorie and a lot of flavor.
Makes everything taste a whole lot better. All right guys, while my eggs are all cooked up here, kinda just break them up, make it nice and lose here and I am going to add these bad boys to my grits.”
After the grits were done cooking in the microwave, he stirred in some Kraft cheese slices followed by the egg whites.
“All right the grits are all good and cooked up so now I am going to take them out of the microwave and mix it all up. Real easy. I’m gonna put these eggs into the grits, first I’m going to put a couple slices of cheese in the grits so I can get them nice and good and yummy.
Get a spoon and stir it up real good. Get that all melted. Now, I’m gonna put my egg whites in here and now I’m gonna mix this all together like so so it’ll be all nice and good” Coleman said.
Ronnie Coleman explained that the reason he made grits and egg whites was because it was a balanced meal packed with the right amount of carbs and protein.
“The reason why I did this was because I was trying to get a nice balanced meal of carbs and protein. Yeah, buddy!
Alright, now I got this all mixed up real good in here and now it is time to eat. Alright guys, now it is time for me to enjoy these grits. One of my favorite meals of the day. Yeah, buddy! Oh yeah, all good.”
Will Tennyson, a fitness influencer who has built a name for himself on social media by duplicating well-known athletes’ diets, previously decided it was time for him to give Coleman’s a shot. Consisting of 600 grams of protein and over 6,000 calories, Tennyson had a newfound respect for the eight-time Mr. Olympia champion after finishing a full day of Coleman’s bulking diet.
“That was a day in the life of Ronnie Coleman. Bulking, training to win eight Mr. Olympia’s. The guy is a legend for a reason. Doing this every single day without complaining. Putting in the work even when he had a full-time job. He only quit during his sixth Olympia because he pretty much had to he was so busy. Hats off to the guy, he’s just a champion.”
Now, unless you intend to become a bodybuilder yourself, you certainly don’t need to be eating like Ronnie Coleman on a consistent basis.
