It wasn’t just training that Ronnie Coleman mastered, he also became a seasoned expert on nutrition throughout his bodybuilding tenure. In a recent YouTube video shared on December 2, 2024, he walked fans through his steak and potatoes recipe — a crucial meal he used to dominate the Men’s Open division throughout the 2000s.

Ronnie Coleman is arguably the greatest bodybuilding talent to walk the earth. He cemented his legacy after winning the Mr. Olympia eight consecutive times, ruling over the Open class for nearly a decade with unparalleled size, conditioning, and muscle fullness.

8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman Shares His ‘Very Simple’ Steak and Potato Recipe

Ultimately, Coleman was unseated as champion when he lost the title to his long-time rival Jay Cutler. In retirement, ‘The King’ remains dedicated to the sport, offering glimpses into his training sessions, recovery protocols, as well as the recipes he used in the kitchen to turn himself into a weapon on stage.

In his latest offering on YouTube, Coleman walked fans through how he makes one of his favorite recipes, steak and potatoes.

“Hey guys, it’s Big Ron in the kitchen again and today we are going to be cooking up one of my favorites, steak and potatoes” Coleman said.

Big Ron’s Steak and Potato Recipe:

For the Potato-

  • Rinse potatoes well
  • Wrap in aluminum foil while still wet
  • Bake for 1 hour at 400°F

For Steak-

  • Place ribeye steak on plate
  • Season to your liking with salt
  • Cook steak to desired temperature (Ronnie Coleman prefers well done)

First thing Ronnie Coleman does is prepare his potatoes by washing them and wrapping them in aluminum foil before baking for an hour.

“For my baked potatoes, all I do is wash them off real good, put them in some aluminum foil, and throw them into the oven for about an hour.”

While his potatoes are in the oven cooking, he gets his steaks ready by seasoning well with salt.

“Alright guys, my steak routine is very simple. All I do is put the steak, my ribeye steak right here, on the plate, get them seasoned up real good with a little salt.

All right, now we got these bad boys all seasoned up, now it’s time to go to the grill and cook them up.”

After the steaks are seasoned to his liking, he then cooks them on the grill until they are well done.

“All right guys, now that I’ve taken my steaks off the grill, now it’s time to put everything on the plate and eat them up. My steak and my potatoes are next, and now it’s time to eat. Let’s do this!”

When the food was finished, Coleman gave it a try and emphasized that this was the best meal he had eaten throughout his bodybuilding career.

“Oh yeah, that’s good eatins. Yeah, buddy! Good old steak. Steak’s always been my best meal of the day. Couldn’t wait to get to the steak.”

Aside from crafting masterpieces in the kitchen, Coleman continues to make health his number one priority. After 13 back and neck surgeries, he struggles to walk without assistance. However, thanks to consistent stem cell procedures and pool rehabilitation therapy, he intends to walk unassisted within 1-2 years.

While he’s stepped away from the sport competitively, Coleman still provides for fans and athletes who have followed in his footsteps. The next time you’re looking for a high-protein delicious meal, give Coleman’s famous steak and potatoes recipe a try!
