Whitney Johns – Bodybuilding Career

Whitney Johns competed as a bodybuilder for the first time in 2015, at the NPC Grand Prix. It was here, that she competed in both Bikini Class D and F, scoring 2nd and 3rd, respectively. This earned her a WBFF Pro Card. Although bodybuilding is not the biggest part of her life anymore, it gave her an experience to help her moving forward.

Whitney Johns – Modeling Career

Whitney Johns was able to use her influences in the bodybuilding circuit to get her foot in the door of modeling, for both magazines and Instagram. She earned her Pro Card competing as a Bikini model, and this just began her interest in the field. This only grew when she got jobs with various apparel and nutritional companies.

Some of the companies Johns has modeled for include:

  • Fitness Gurls Magazine
  • Symbiotics
  • Underground Prep
  • Muscle & Fitness

In addition to this, Johns has had a ton of success becoming a model on Instagram. The combination of her being a personal trainer and her modeling has garnered her quite the following on the social media platform. She has over half a million followers and is constantly growing.

Whitney Johns – Personal Training Career

While Whitney Johns was working to grow her brand as a model and bodybuilder, she found joy in training. As a result, she started working towards getting certified as a personal trainer. She earned her NASM Certified Personal Trainer Certification right around the time she took to the bodybuilding stage for the first time. This allowed her to not only further her own fitness goals with increased knowledge but allowed her to follow her passion for helping others.

Johns really started finding success in the training industry, helping hundreds of people with their various needs. In addition to that, she has developed an app for assisting with the training process, called Fit With Whit. This, combined with her online courses, and customized training plans, has given her a good reputation in the fitness community.

When it comes to training, Whitney Johns spends a lot of time working on plans for her clients. Nevertheless, in between this, she manages to find time to work on her own training, often hitting the gym six times a week. She lifts weights 4 times a week, while also including unique approaches, such as Boxing, and MMA training.

Johns puts an emphasis on training her abs, making sure to work them every other day. She typically advises people to begin working with different types of planks, to build overall core strength. Moreover, she advises for athletes to do their ab workout at the end of their training sessions, to focus on toning.

This is her ab training routine:

  • V-Up – 3 sets/20 reps
  • Plank Jack – 3 sets/20 reps
  • Star Plank Rollover – 3 sets/20 reps per side
  • Tabletop Heel-to-Sky – 3 sets/20 reps per leg

When she is not working on her abs, Johns also likes to put a focus on her glutes. She does this with some hydrant leg extensions, curtsey lunges, rainbow leg lifts, barbell squats, and single-leg glute bridges. Some other exercises she uses for her overall body training include barbell step-ups, assisted machine dips, bent over barbell rows, dumbbell lateral raises, standing dumbbell curls, and plank push-ups.

Another thing that Johns likes to do, is work with resistance bands. This is some of the exercises she will do with those bands:

  • Lateral Raise: 3 sets/12-20 reps
  • Bicep Curls: 3 sets/12-20 reps
  • Triceps Extensions: 3 sets/12-20 reps

For her cardio and conditioning training, Johns likes to utilize High-Intensity Interval Training. She likes to use this routine in particular, doing 4 sets of 30 seconds each, then 4 sets of 20 seconds each.

  • Walking Push-Ups
  • Burpees
  • Bicycle Crunches
  • Reverse Crunch with a Twist
  • Half Jumping Jack

Diet and Nutrition

With her experience in personal training, Whitney Johns recognizes how important nutrition is to keeping your body in the best condition. She takes her diet very seriously, leaning more towards a dairy-free, low carb, and high-fat diet. She finds it important to stay disciplined with her diet, staying away from artificial junk food.

However, just like everyone, Johns likes to occasionally have a cheat meal. When those days come, Whitney usually is a sucker for creamy pastas, and red meats. Although she does not care as much for sweets, she still enjoys a helping of frozen yogurt or ice cream. On the other hand, she makes it clear that while having a few cheat meals is okay, having an entire cheat day can seriously hinder your progress.
