The 2023 Rogue Invitational took place on October 26-29, at the Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock, TX. It featured two divisions, CrossFit and Strongman, which together counted 50 athletes. So, with such a large number of competitors, the chances of injuries were always present. Well, some injuries did in fact occur, with Trey Mitchell and Jonne Koski being those who suffered them.

Trey Mitchell (Strongman)

Tragedy struck Trey Mitchell on the first day of the 2023 Rogue Invitational Strongman. He first put up an incredible result in the opening events, winning the Tower of Power Deadlift for Reps. However, during his performance at the second event, the Iron Bull Sled Pull, Trey fell and remained on the floor for some time. He was given medical assistance and went for further testing.

It was quickly determined that Trey Mitchell tore his Achilles tendon and that he would not be able to continue competing. He officially confirmed the withdrawal on Instagram and revealed how he was feeling.

“Without a doubt, I came into the Rogue Invitational more prepared than I have ever been for a competition. Absolutely everything dialed in and my performance in the deadlift was only teaser to what I knew I was capable of.

Unfortunately, the sled pull had different plans for us all today and I went down. As you can clearly see my right foot in the video sustained a full Achilles tear. I meet with an orthopedic surgeon in morning and will update everyone as I know more.”

Jonne Koski (CrossFit)

Like Mitchell, Jonne Koski also got unlucky at the start of the 2023 Rogue Invitational CrossFit. During the ‘Texas Heavy’ event, which required a lot of running with weighted rucks, Jonne injured his ankle, but it did not seem to be too severe. So, there was still hope that Jonne would feel well enough to continue competing.

However, after a night of sleep, Jonne Koski woke up with a swollen ankle, which made it impossible for him to continue competing. So, he posted a statement on his Instagram story, stating:

“Unfortunately, overnight my ankle swole quite a lot, and after testing some of the movements this morning, we had to make a decision to withdraw from the competition.”

Some athletes also had to withdraw prior to the start of the 2023 Rogue Invitational. Firstly, Strongman Pavlo Nakonechny got into a car accident, which left him with some severe injuries. On the other hand, the CrossFit lineup was left without the 2x Fittest Woman On Earth, Annie Thorisdottir, who got pregnant.
