Though Flakka has got nothing at all to do with bodybuilding supplementation and sports nutrition, it remains unclear how Austin got his hands on it or why he used it. It’s unfortunate that bodybuilding and steroids are being blamed for the event by some. What one puts in his body is solely up to him and doesn’t represent a sport and other sportsmen in any way. Austin’s case is a perfect example of why how harmful some substances can be and why professional guidance is always necessary with respect to sports nutrition.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse reveals α-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone (alpha-PVP), is a synthetic stimulant of the cathinone class developed in the 1960s the drug is related to the synthetic cathinone drugs called “bath salts” which also grew popular the past few months.
“Flakka simulates the effects of methamphetamine and cocaine but at a much cheaper level, which is why the drug has been popular to college students. It is reportedly 10 times more powerful than cocaine.” According to the Rolling Stone.
It also says that the drug has been known to cause heart attack and could very well lead to a dangerously high body temperature which would lead to kidney failure or kidney damage.
