Every year, a new unknown bodybuilder emerges from the shadows, leaving fans wondering where they’ve been. The latest was Rubiel “Neckzilla” Mosquera, who just claimed bronze in his Pro debut on the 2023 EVLS Prague Pro stage last weekend. In a recent Rx Muscle YouTube video on November 20, 2023, Chris Cormier discussed the future of Mosquera in the Men’s Open and his next plan of action.
“I’m telling you right now, they had the winner, but it was Rubio’s day, show, and weekend. I’m telling you from the fan standpoint, he was the star,” explains Chris Cormier.
Boasting a one-of-a-kind freak factor, Mosquera’s size and muscularity have already drawn comparisons to the former eight-time Mr. Olympia kingpin Ronnie Coleman. His long neck and tree trunk legs are his most powerful body parts. Like Michal Krizanek, Mosquera switched to the NPC and quickly earned his IFBB Pro card, which he achieved at the EVLS Prague Pro Amateur.
Wasting no time, Mosquera jumped into the deepest of waters, having tested himself against the third-best bodybuilder in the world, Samson Dauda, and a group of other top-tier Open contenders. In the end, ‘Neckzilla’ bagged third place in his Pro debut at the EVLS Prague Pro, defeating established names in the category such as Nathan De Asha and Roman Fritz.

‘He’s Just Going to Get Better and Better’ – Chris Cormier on Rubio Mosquera’s Trajectory in Open Class
According to Cormier, no one can appreciate the sheer size of Mosquera until they’ve witnessed his physique in person.
“We were a little worried about him upsetting the whole situation. So yeah, he was in the heavyweight class, but he didn’t have any back like whatsoever. It was like okay, okay,” said Chris Cormier.
“I feel like there was a lot of naysayers and people talking that and picking out, you know, you can pick anyone apart and I’m sure you’ve said that a million times on this podcast. But I mean, but when you are there… I’m talking about when you’re there, it’s a whole other story.”
Cormier mentioned that Kevin Levrone couldn’t believe the size of Mosquera’s legs, adding that they felt like “healthy muscle.”
“Yeah, I think a lot of people are going to be surprised in the future. He’s just now getting started. What I’m trying to figure out is like I know for a fact he has not put in that much pain in those legs. No. Kevin Levrone was making him pull his pants down, he just couldn’t believe how big his legs were. He kept bringing people over there.”
“They’ve never seen anything like this. Kevin was just astonished.”
“[His legs] are just muscle, they don’t feel like rock-solid, but just feels like healthy muscle. Healthy muscle is not rock-solid. It’s just weird. I met him like a year ago,” added Cormier.
As for ‘Neckzilla’s’ future, Cormier called him a “rottweiler” and specified that he wasn’t far behind anyone on the Prague Pro stage, including Samson Dauda.
“It’s pretty amazing how he did,” said Cormier. “Yeah, just from the posing [he dried out]. From the first day, he was posing every day because as soon as I got there we posed every single day and we never missed a day of posing and training.”
“He’s definitely the rottweiler in this group,” Cormier shared. “I did like Rubio’s abs against everybody’s, I did! He had like cubed out [abs]. I tell people if you’re going to have a powerful body there’s no way you can have flat abs and not paying attention to your abs that much. You’ve got to pay close attention to the abs.”
“Like you see the dominance in the legs. You know what I was telling Rubio, it’s a good thing it is, you know that it’s not like super-dried out quads these days where you’re not going to look that bad out of shape but we would like to see more cut details in his quads. As you see right here, it’s not like he’s so far behind [at the EVLS Prague Pro].”
Despite a lack of experience in the IFBB Pro League, Cormier believes Mosquera is brimming with upside moving forward.
“The thing there’s just like an innocent kid up there going up against men and he was just like, ‘Okay.’ He was so funny.”
“He’s in a side chest and I’m guiding him through the pose the whole time, and I’m doing gestures and then he makes an adjustment. I’m just like oh my God. I basically had a little puppet going up there trying to do all the movements.”
“I think he’s just going to get better and better. This is the worst he’s going to be right here, I think,” said Cormier. “No, [nothing needs to be bigger] it’s just artistically putting together the physique. I think a lot of people, you’re going to have 70% going yay yay good for you and have 30% talking shit.”
Concerning Mosquera’s next bodybuilding show, Cormier suggested that the 2024 Arnold Classic wasn’t in serious consideration:
“I mean I’ll probably let him say exactly [what he’s doing next]. I don’t know. I wouldn’t think the Arnold. I would think later on.”
Having already proven himself against a powerful lineup in Prague, Mosquera has undoubtedly turned into one of the most exciting new talents in the league. While some have argued his lower body wasn’t proportionate with his upper body, Cormier believes they can refine his physique in the coming months, making him even more competitive with top names of the Open.
Chris Cormier, who also coaches former two-time Classic Physique Olympia Breon Ansley, can see the upside in Rubio Mosquera. Considering the waves he’s made competing at just one Pro show, there’s no telling the future of ‘Neckzilla’ in the IFBB Pro League.
