Sam Sulek Shares Fat Loss-Focused Grocery Haul, Reveals Favorite Protein Sources

With plans to compete in the Classic Physique division, Sam Sulek shared his grocery haul as he continues to diet down.

Sam Sulek continues to march toward his splash in Classic Physique bodybuilding. Taking to YouTube on December 15, 2024, he itemized his fat loss-focused grocery haul, where he selected an array of high-protein foods to fuel his training and everyday life. 

The rise of Sam Sulek has been fascinating to witness. He’s quickly become an internet phenomenon thanks to his candid personality and ripped physique at only 22 years old. While he’s yet to test the waters in bodybuilding, he’s mentioned that he wants to compete as a Classic Physique competitor in one to one-and-a-half years. 

He’s worked alongside active high-profile IFBB Pros, including reigning Mr. Olympia Samson Dauda and Classic Physique star Urs Kalecinski. He also recently pumped iron alongside former four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, taking tips whenever he could for his future career in the sport. After sharing a full day of eating for weight loss, he now took fans on a grocery shopping tour.

  • 2 packs of deli turkey meat 
  • low-carb bread 
  • 3 packs top round boneless steak 
  • 5 packs lean ground beef (5 pounds) 
  • 1 pack Kraft single cheese slices 
  • 4 containers egg whites 
  • Low-carb tortillas 
  • Light-fat mayo 
  • Ketchup no sugar added 
  • Cold brew coffee

While speaking on his YouTube channel, which boasts over 3.83 million subscribers, Sulek revealed that this grocery haul differs from ones of the past, mainly because it’s all about protein instead of carbs. 

“It’s just not much to freakin see. I feel like my grocery trips are so sparse now. Because if I get a couple pounds of ground beef, a few tubs of egg whites, a couple of protein shakes, not for the majority, but sometimes, it’s a helpful tool… it’s like I’m actually getting groceries at the rate of a normal dude. I’m not sitting here coming in for a restock every week like I would when I’m trying to bulk up. So dieting down, a little bit more sparse,” he shared. 

Because Sulek has been limiting his food intake to lose weight, he admitted he’s visiting the store less frequently since he doesn’t need to restock as often. 

“Think about it, if you eat less food, you have to buy less food, you come to the grocery store a little bit less. Step one on the agenda, is a little bit of a protein restock.

As cool as it is to talk about the carbed-up effect of being really full, nothing is going to replace the protein. That’s simply a staple, bulking up or cutting down.” 

He still has to meet his protein goals though, which amounts to 250 grams per day. His preferred sources of protein are ground beef, eggs, chicken, and canned sardines. However, with sardines, he cautions viewers that they contain more fat than he’s after on his current diet. 

“I’m still going to be eating 250 grams of protein from dedicated protein sources, be it, ground beef, eggs, chicken, and sometimes canned little bit of sardine action. In terms of the micronutrient density, that’s up there with like straight-up liver supplements.

The problem is they are really fatty. A full tin of sardines, even if you squeeze the fat out of it with a paper towel, you’re still talking about 20 grams of fat per container which I’m eating like 70 per day.”

While finishing up his shopping, Sulek broke down his dieting approach, explaining that he tries to evenly distribute his total caloric intake throughout the day. 

“With my dieting approaches, I’m always trying to make sure I’m on a rate that’s conducive with whatever I’m aiming for. So if I’m trying to eat only 2,200 calories for the whole day, halfway throughout the day, I want to be at 1,100 or less so that I can at least eat something before I go to bed. Because then if I don’t, the odds are I’m going to get up start snacking on whatever the hell is in the pantry, increases exponentially.” 

As one of the most famous bodybuilders who hasn’t competed yet, Sulek’s venture into the sport is surrounded by mystery and excitement. As he trims down his physique, questions about his amateur debut keep arising.
