Urs Kalecinski‘s sudden move to the Men’s Open is still sending ripples through the Classic Physique division. On August 31, 2025, Wesley Vissers discussed his plan to one day compete in the Men’s Open. Ramon Queiroz also appeared in a recent podcast and signaled interest in moving up categories.

Ever since reigning six-time Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead competed in the Men’s Open for a one-off, fans have wondered if any athletes would follow suit. That curiosity was put to bed as Kalecinski announced his departure from Classic Physique to the Men’s Open. His reason? His body wanted to grow, and cutting weight to make the cap no longer aligned with his goals in the sport.

Vissers is taking the year off to make improvements. He made this revelation after taking fifth place at the Arnold Classic and second place at the Detroit Pro. While he’s interested in switching divisions eventually, it appears he’s solely focused on Classic Physique in the meantime.

“I just watched the Urs update of going to Open. I’m sure you guys have as well. Classic Physique — a really good physique, third in the world multiple times. We also have seen Cbum do the same thing last year. It goes to show that Classic guys can really do very, very well in the Open category.”

“I’m also in this off-season. I’ve gained quite a lot of quality tissue. I think this amount of weight, with this conditioning, I think this number might have easily been higher than Urs’ off-season weight, what it was this time. That really opens up a lot of possibilities for me, for sure,” he shared.

For now, Vissers confirmed plans to stay in Classic Physique but stressed that he’ll attempt at least one Open show before retiring.

“I have to say I’m going to stay in Classic guys,” he adds. “But, a teaser here: before I retire, before I stop this whole thing, I do want to do at least one Open show. It’s still going to be an option for me. It’s still in the cards at the very end.”

Queiroz was also inspired by Kalecinski’s switch and predicted that he would one day move to the Men’s Open, but only after capturing the Classic Physique Olympia title.

“I thought it was really brave of him, something I would never do at any point but after he went, it kind of made me want to do it too. I said it: Hey, if he thinks he can do it, then I can too.

Me, I’m already sure I’m going to do it. Before I wasn’t so sure, but now I’m certain that Open will be the next step. Of course, I want to follow my plan to become Classic Physique champion and stay there for a few years but soon enough, we’ll be moving on to Open.”

Kalecinski’s move up to the Men’s Open has the bodybuilding community talking. Judge Terrick El Guindy labeled Kalecinski a superstar and predicted that he would have a successful future in the new category. He specified that Kalecinski’s posing and conditioning would be standout strengths.

It will be interesting to see if Vissers and Queiroz eventually move divisions. How do you think they would fare in the Men’s Open?
