For years, critics have been pointing to the midsection of Phil Heath as one of his biggest weak points. However that may no longer be the case, after some recent physique updates from the 7x Mr. Olympia.
Over the last few weeks, Heath has been coy concerning his competition plans for the year. On the one hand, he has hinted at being in prep for something, but on the other he has made it clear that he wants it to be worth his while if he is going to compete again.
That being said, whatever his plans are, it is clear that Phil has been working hard in the gym, in particular with tightening up his midsection. He recently posted a series of photos to Instagram that show off his rarely seen abs, and they are looking quite tremendous.
It should be noted that this is about as ideal of a picture as Phil Heath can take, between the great lighting in the gym and the fact that he is choosing to pose and flex his abs. However this particular shot seems to have his gut looking way leaner and more chiseled than how he looked at the 2020 Olympia.

This was not the only update that Phil shared recently, either. In what looks like another shot during the same session, the bodybuilding legend showed off his arms, which were well defined with clearly visible striations throughout his shoulder.
These updates, combined with the fact that he has said that he is prepping for something, have made many wonder what exactly he has going on. There are only two major shows coming up which make sense for Heath to participate in, if he is competing in bodybuilding.
Of course, there is the 2021 Olympia, set to take place October 7th-10th, in Orlando, Florida. However just a few weeks before that is the Arnold Classic, which has a crazy lineup as it is, and could be even better with the addition of Phil Heath.
While his midsection is looking better now than in recent times, it appears that Heath is still a bit downsized. However if his abs are tight, and he can bring a well rounded package, he could have a shot at winning the Arnold, which is the only major bodybuilding title that has eluded him throughout his career.
Time will tell when or if Phil Heath competes again, but it is clear that he is hard at work in the gym for something. Even if that is to feel better about his own midsection, the work is clearly paying off.
