Ron Teufel won the short class at the Mr America three years running, in 1977, 1978 and 1979, and was runner-up in the overall three times. He was a teenage champion at eighteen.
Known for
Three consecutive Mr America class titles is the record. He also won the Mr USA and Mr California short classes in 1978 and the USA vs the World middleweight in the same year, which makes 1978 the most complete season of his career.
The overall title never came. He was second at the Mr America in 1976, 1977 and 1980, and second at the 1979 World Amateur Championships and the 1980 Mr International.

He won the Teen Mr America and the Teen Mr USA short class in 1975, at eighteen, then Mr Eastern Seaboard and Mr Colonial America in 1976. Nineteen contests are recorded and he won eleven of them.

Legacy
Teufel is one of the clearest cases of a competitor whose record the modern reader will misread. Under today's rules a three-time class champion is a three-time champion; under the rules he competed by, the class title and the overall were separate, and he won one and never the other.
