Each athlete starts at 100 and loses points for a weaker record. Three inputs take points away, and they are nowhere near equal in effect.
- Recent placements decide most of it. The last three results in this division, weighted 50 / 30 / 20 from newest to oldest. Across their full range these can move a score by about 75 points, which is why the order changes when a result lands and almost never otherwise.
- The record at this contest, in this division, is worth roughly half as much. Average placement across every recorded Wheelchair Olympia appearance in this division, worth up to about 45 points. An athlete with titles in a different division has no record here, so this input reads as an absence rather than as strength.
- Win rate barely moves anything. Wins as a share of contests entered since 2024. It is in the formula, but from 0% to 100% it changes a score by two points at most. Treat it as a tiebreak, not a driver.
An athlete with no current competitive activity loses a further 15 points, so a retired champion cannot sit at the top of a board about a contest they are not entering. An athlete with fewer than three recorded results in the division is scored as though the missing ones were 16th place, which pushes newcomers down. Scores are clamped to a 1 to 99 range and recomputed from the database, so a corrected result changes the order without anyone editing this page.
Has this been tested against contests that already happened?
No, and we are not going to publish a hit rate we cannot stand behind. Re-running the model for a past year would read today's database, which already holds every result from after that contest. It would score the 2022 field partly on what happened in 2023, then report the outcome as a prediction. That is not accuracy, it is hindsight, and it always flatters the model.
A real test needs boards that were saved before the contest was held and left untouched. The weekly snapshots behind the odds board are exactly that, but they are kept for twelve weeks and then discarded, so no resolved contest has a surviving snapshot yet. When one does, the score will be published here with the date the board was taken, win or lose.
What can be checked today is the historical record itself, which is what the Olympia record reports: how often the sitting champion has actually held the title, rather than how often this model said he would.

Are these betting odds?
No. No bookmaker price, betting line or market movement is used anywhere in the calculation, and none is referenced on the page. The figure beside each athlete is a strength-of-record score between 1 and 99, not a probability and not a price.
Why is an athlete I expect to win ranked low, or missing?
The field is drawn from athletes with a recorded result in this division since 2024, capped at the 50 with the most career wins and published down to 30. Someone returning after a longer gap, moving up from another division, or turning pro this season has little or nothing for the model to read, and the missing results are scored as though they were 16th places. The model underrates first-time qualifiers by construction and that is not a bug we have hidden.
Does the model know who has entered?
No. Entry lists, withdrawals, injuries and division changes are not in the results database, so they are not in the score. An athlete can appear on this board and never step on stage.
How often does it change?
Only when the database changes. The engine caches each division's board for four hours and recomputes from recorded placements, so a quiet fortnight between shows is the normal state of the page rather than a stalled one. The recompute date is printed under the ranking heading at the top of this page.
Is this the same thing as the odds board?
Same engine, different job. This page shows the current standing for a division. The odds board saves that standing once a week and shows what moved since the last one.
