Bodybuilder Chris Bumstead is officially in the final stretch of preparations before attempting to defend his title this weekend. In a recent YouTube video shared on October 9, 2024, ‘Cbum’ discussed his approach to the Classic Physique weight cap and shared his 2024 Mr. Olympia peak week grocery haul.
Since 2019, Bumstead has reigned supreme in the Classic Physique category after taking the reins from former two-time titleholder Breon Ansley. Bumstead’s combination of aesthetics, shape, and conditioning has been a near impossible to beat combination on the sport’s greatest stage.
However, there are some notable threats eager to take his championship status away, such as Ramon Queiroz and Wesley Vissers. For the past two years, Queiroz has taken runner-up behind Bumstead on the prestigious stage.
While Vissers took seventh at the last Mr. Olympia in 2023, he’s improved dramatically since. At the 2024 Arnold Classic Ohio, he shocked the world after taking out Queiroz, leaving many assuming that he’ll be the one to eventually knock Bumstead off his throne. Bumstead isn’t taking his rivals lightly and remains dedicated to the sport despite whispers of a retirement coming soon.

Chris Bumstead Discusses Approach to Weight Cap for 2024 Mr. Olympia Peak Week
Bumstead says he’s feeling good heading into the last chapter of his preparations for the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia.
“Seven days out from the Olympia. Officially one week and we’re leaving for Vegas tomorrow so it’s a big day. It’s also my final leg workout. Also had 500 grams of carbs yesterday and I got steak and lots of carbs before the workout today too, feeling good.”
He revealed that he’s been dropping weight rapidly and needs to stay four pounds above his weight limit for the time being. This will ensure by the time he steps on stage that he’s not too skinny or flat.
“Weight kept dropping so I’m trying to eat right now. I’m not trying to get close to my weight cap just yet because I know it will in the following week.
I’m trying to stay four pounds above my weight cap, to make sure I’m not too skinny, not too flat, and have a little fuel in me for my last leg workout.”
Bumstead’s 2024 Mr. Olympia Peak Week Grocery Haul
Find his grocery haul below:
“This is food you just need for next few days, not the carb up,” shared Courtney King.
- Sweet potatoes
- Steak
- Fish (Cod)
- Chicken
- Beef
- Distilled water
- 2 boxes of eggs
- Hashbrowns (Insta-cart)
Bumstead explained that this wouldn’t be his only trip to the grocery store. In the coming days, he’ll need to buy more carb-rich foods to peak properly for his title defense this weekend.
“Here we are at the famous grocery shopping event of the first day — I’m so brain dead, in Vegas, where we spent fucking $700 at Whole Foods on a week of food and come back three or four times again because Hany said he need seven different colored potatoes for when I start carbing up.”
“We’re going to buy a shit-ton of steak, a shit-ton of fish, chicken, a bunch of zucchini, I’m still on diet right now technically because I still got to make weight. I was going to say we’d buy some fun stuff but we don’t [get to],” he shared.
Between talks of retirement and enthusiasts wanting to see him compete in the Open, the bodybuilding future of Chris Bumstead remains uncertain. Bodybuilding veteran Dennis James is convinced this Saturday will be the final time we see ‘Cbum’ compete in the sport.
From training to the contents of his kitchen, Bumstead isn’t taking any chances as he sets his sights on history in the Classic Physique division. Don’t miss the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia, set to take over Las Vegas, Nevada from October 10-13. Fitness Volt will have live coverage of prejudging and the finals.
