In the wake of John LaFlamme’s recent success, another Masters powerlifter and World Record holder also shared an incredible feat of strength, as David Ricks is planning to further cement his legacy. David is currently 63-years-old and shows no signs of slowing down, which easily makes him one of the most influential and inspiring figures in the sport of powerlifting. He recently performed a 285-kilogram (628-pound) deadlift for five repetitions, which is nothing short of mind-blowing.

David Ricks put on his lifting belt and wrist wraps for this set, which means that it is raw by powerlifting standards. Ricks widened his legs into a sumo stance and slowly got into an adequate position to grab the bar with a mixed grip. He also took some time to mentally prepare, but there was no stopping him after that.

“63 Years old. Still grinding away.”

David Ricks is currently preparing for the 2022 IPF World Classic & Equipped Masters Powerlifting Championships, which will take place from October 8-15, in Newfoundland, Canada. Ricks still has a lot of time left to prepare, so his recent feat of strength could just be the beginning of something incredible.

David Ricks has had one of the most amazing powerlifting careers ever, as he has been competing professionally since 1981. He has competed in over 90 sanctioned powerlifting competitions and won a large portion of them. Most notably, David is a 10x IPF World Champion and a 30x National Champion. He was also inducted into the USAPL Men’s Hall of Fame and the Summit County, Ohio Hall of Fame.

Although he had a solid career as a younger athlete, David Ricks really became world-class once he started competing in the Masters’ divisions, where he now holds multiple IPF World Records.

It seems that David Ricks is satisfied with the way his strength is progressing, which certainly makes the future look very optimistic. He will look to claim another World Champion title and probably further improve the records that he is holding in less than two months. David is working on his technique slowly while also pushing himself to the limit. As David has used this approach multiple times already, there is no doubt that he is knowledgeable about what he is doing.
