Following his very solid performance at the 2022 IPF World’s, Ricks immediately returned to the gym in hopes of improving even further. Despite being 62 years old, David appears to be becoming more motivated and energized as time passes. This approach is working well for him, as David has claimed a very impressive achievement in his most recent training session. He shared the video footage of his new 525-pound (238.1-kilogram) squat for eight rep PR on his Instagram on July 1, 2022.
We can’t see David Ricks’ entire legs in the videos, which makes it difficult to determine whether he is wearing knee sleeves. Knee sleeves seem to be the most logical choice, since he has been competing exclusively in the raw division for the past seven years. However, it is clear that David was also using a lifting belt and wrist wraps, while the video also gave a nice insight into his technique. Impressively, not one of the eight repetitions looked to be taxing for David, which proves that he is in great shape right now.
You can watch the lift here:
“Squat workout at a local LA Fitness while I am at a conference in Orlando FL.
I decided to push myself and hit a PR of 8 reps at 525 LB. Not too bad for a guy who will be 63 in 4 weeks
No spotters – No problem
No “eye of the tiger” music – No problem 😊
I left some unfinished business in Sun City South Africa a few weeks ago. I am working towards the Masters Classic Worlds in Canada in October.”

By “Unfinished Business”, David Ricks meant that he was not satisfied with his squat performance at the recent IPF World’s. However, David intends to do even better at the 2022 IPF World Classic & Equipped Masters Powerlifting Championships. This competition is set to take place on October 8-15, 2022, in Newfoundland, Canada.
Since he began powerlifting professionally in 1981, at 21, David Ricks has competed in over 90 sanctioned competitions. He has found some great success, but it seems that his greatest performances came when he started competing in the Master’s age divisions.
Although David Ricks’ squat performance from the IPF World’s was not good enough to satisfy him, it now serves as a motivation for future performances. It obviously moved him a lot since he also claimed a new eight-rep squat PR. In just four weeks, David will turn 63, so we’ll see what he has in store.
