Erik Markov, who was fresh off earning his IFBB Pro card, has tragically passed away. News of his unexpected passing was made public by sources at RxMuscle — Truth in Bodybuilding on August 31, 2025. Currently, the cause of death has not been revealed.
Markov found his footing in the incredibly competitive Classic Physique division. His potential was evident as soon as he hit the stage as an amateur, thanks to his conditioning levels, v-taper, and narrow waist. Markov lived and trained in Spain and was known in local circles for his dedication to bodybuilding, from strict dieting to consistent training sessions.
He competed in a pair of shows throughout the 2025 bodybuilding season. His IFBB Pro card campaign kicked off with a victory at the NPC Worldwide Top Tan Classic Regional. In that same month, Markov achieved his long-time dream: he secured an IFBB Pro card in the Classic Physique category, laying claim to a massive win at the Worldwide Amateur Olympia Spain.

“We’re saddened by the tragic passing of IFBB Classic Physique Pro, Erik Markov. Markov, originally from Latvia (living in Spain), recently earned his pro card in May at the 2025 NPC Worldwide Amateur Olympia Spain. We send our warmest wishes to his family and loved ones during this most difficult time.” wrote RxMuscle.
Given that Markov was on the younger side, impassioned discussions about the safety of the sport have surfaced. This included bodybuilding veteran Victor Martinez, who recently underwent an emergency surgery:
“I just woke up abruptly from one of my nightly aftermath pains from my surgery. I get on ig and i see the unfortunate news Yet another young bodybuilder’s passing. It is sad to see. But the most devastating part is most of the negative comments are coming from other bodybuilders or those that wish to be one.
In most professions i always notice a code of respect they give each other just because they share the same , interest, job, or career. The organization isn’t big like most other sports because we don’t have enough interest, but because we lack the respect for one another. The assumptions are nasty, stupid, and pointless. Regardless of what caused it, he passed away, and we had something in common. RIP champ, and my condolences to his real friends and family. 🙏🏽” Martinez wrote.
This wasn’t the first prominent IFBB Pro from Classic Physique to die suddenly. Bodybuilder Neil Currey, a New York Pro champion, sadly passed away at just 34 years old. Months after his demise, Currey’s parents spoke out, blaming performance-enhancing drug use for their son’s death.
Additional details about Markov’s death haven’t been made public at this time. Our staff at Fitness Volt wishes his friends and family strength and resilience during this difficult time.
