Neil Currey Obituary

In an unfortunate turn of events, Classic Physique bodybuilder, Neil Currey, has passed away at the tender age of 34. The disheartening news emerged on Monday night via RXMuscle and was later confirmed by Milos Sarcev, Currey’s one-time mentor.

Making his entrance into the IFBB world in 2019, Currey’s pinnacle moment was clinching a win in 2022, the same year he took his bow at the prestigious Olympia event. Sarcev voiced his anguish, reminiscing Currey’s radiant joy post his New York Pro victory, which etched his journey to the 2022 Classic Physique Olympia. The weight of the loss is felt deeply across the bodybuilding community.

Hailing from the UK, Neil’s fitness journey was rooted in his younger years. His affinity for football during school introduced him to weightlifting, gradually shifting his focus to bodybuilding with a disciplined regimen and nutrition plan.

Absolutely shocking, heartbreaking news – that my former athlete @neil_currey died today…taking his own life. 😔 My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia. I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Neil and God bless your soul. 🙏🏻❤️

Charting Neil Currey’s Rise

Currey’s bodybuilding journey kickstarted at the 2017 World Championships, claiming fifth place in the pro muscle category. The following year, his dedication bore fruit when he clinched the top spot at the NPC Worldwide Amateur Olympia Italy, attaining his Pro Card.

His journey in the Classic Physique segment of the IFBB commenced in 2019, debuting with a commendable seventh position at the Kuwait Pro. Neil’s hard work propelled him to the limelight, leading to appearances at esteemed events like the Tampa and Pittsburgh Pro. His crowning achievement was in 2022 when he bagged the first position at the New York Pro, earning a revered spot in the Olympia contest. At the 2022 Olympia, Neil marked his presence by securing the 16th spot in the Classic Physique category.

Currey’s debut at the 2022 Mr. Olympia wasn’t merely an introduction. His consistent growth, from a seventh-place outset at the 2019 Yamamoto Pro to the esteemed second position at the 2021 Tampa Pro in the Classic Physique division, showcases his dedication. Neil’s career-defining moment came in 2022 when he won the New York Pro.

Competing against stalwarts like Chris Bumstead, a four-time Classic Physique Olympia champion, and formidable opponents like Breon Ansley and Terrence Ruffin, Currey’s potential for a higher finish in his Olympia debut was significant. With such a promising start, his sudden demise leaves the bodybuilding world with a void.
