Pro wrestling legend Terry Gene Bollea, well known as Hulk Hogan, has died at the age of 71. News of his passing was first reported by sources at TMZ Sports on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Early in the morning, paramedics arrived at Hogan’s residence in Clearwater, Florida, with operators warning of a “cardiac arrest” incident.

He was treated by Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel before being transferred to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His wife, Sky, whom he married back in 2023, denied online rumors that the wrestling legend was in a coma before the ordeal. While there were whispers of his health taking a turn for the worse, Hogan was dealing with the aftermath of a neck surgery back in May.

Hogan completely transformed the Pro wrestling business. What was once a niche sport reserved for young men, turned into a rich, family-friendly experience.

Between his trademark horseshoe mustache and bleached blonde hair, Hogan elevated the sport to heights never seen before. Today, he’s widely regarded as the most popular wrestler of all time, with his main contributions to the WWF and WWE coming in the 1980s.

Beyond his decorated wrestling career, Hogan found huge success as an actor. His 1982 role in Rocky III as “Thunder Lips,” was one of his most memorable onscreen performances. He continued to parlay his wrestling experience into Hollywood, having starred in “Hogan Knows Best” — a popular reality show that focused on Hogan’s life and family.

Pro Wrestling Community Mourns a Legend

Ric Flair, another prolific wrestling star, gave his reaction to the sad news. The 75-year-old has also battled heart health complications over the years.

“I Am Absolutely Shocked To Hear About The Passing Of My Close Friend @hulkhogan! Hulk Has Been By My Side Since We Started In The Wrestling Business. An Incredible Athlete, Talent, Friend, And Father! Our Friendship Has Meant The World To Me.

He Was Always There For Me Even When I Didn’t Ask For Him To Be. He Was One Of The First To Visit Me When I Was In The Hospital With A 2% Chance Of Living, And He Prayed By My Bedside. Hulk Also Lent Me Money When Reid Was Sick. Hulkster, No One Will Ever Compare To You! Rest In Peace My Friend! 🙏🏻 ” wrote Flair.

Action star Sylvester Stallone, who faced Hogan onscreen in Rocky III, shared a heartfelt tribute:

“I had the pleasure of meeting this brilliant personality and showman when he was 26 years old. He was absolutely wonderful and his amazing skill made Rocky three incredibly special. My heart breaks. I think that he’s gone…” said Stallone.

Additionally, Paul “Triple H” Levesque reflected on how a fearless Hogan reshaped the wrestling industry one catchphrase at a time:

“WWE would not be where it is today without the larger-than-life characters that compete in the ring … and few, if any, loomed larger than Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea.

He was the archetype of what it meant to be a “Superstar” – a global sensation that inspired millions to work hard at whatever it was they wanted to accomplish and a look that made him recognizable to fans around the world.

Hulk Hogan, clad in red and yellow or nWo black and white, was simply put, iconic. As a Real American or the leader of one of the industry’s biggest factions, he transcended and elevated the entire business to heights never before seen – in every country and on every continent.

There was no one like The Hulkster and there very well may never be another. My family sends their condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”

Remembering Hogan

Hogan reinvented his wrestling persona in 1996, turning from hero to villain. “Hollywood” later became a key member of the NWO — New World Order — which featured top WCW stars like Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. His continued work in wrestling led to a pair of Hall of Fame inductions: once in 2005 and again in 2020.

Fans may never see an enigma quite like Hogan again. Fitness Volt wishes his friends and family strength and resilience as they navigate this loss.
