As a young prospect in the world of strongman, Mitchell Hooper is currently eager to present himself in the best light possible at the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic (ASM), which is one of the most prestigious competitions in the sport. Seeing that he is fully motivated, it is not surprising that he is already prepared to compete. So, being two weeks out from the competition, Hooper has already achieved an impressive level of physical readiness, which was manifested in his recent training session. On February 19th, Mithcell shared a video to Instagram which displayed him performing eight repetitions of a 770-kilogram (1,697.6-pound) Leg Press.

Hooper’s feat of completing eight repetitions with 770 kilograms (1,697.6 pounds) of weight on the leg press machine is particularly impressive because he did not use any supportive gear. This means that his lift was completely raw, and he relied solely on his own strength and technique to complete the lift. Typically, athletes use at least knee sleeves or knee wraps to provide support and stability to their knees during heavy lifts. However, Hooper’s decision to forego any supportive gear is a testament to his confidence in his own ability and his desire to push his limits in preparation for the ASM.

Although the leg press is not usually used as an event in Strongman, it can still help develop quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, which are extremely important in the sport. However, despite its rarity, we recently got to see a Car Leg Press event at the 2022 Shaw Classic. In addition, according to the caption of his Instagram post, Mitchell Hooper is calling for a comeback of the Car Leg Press at this year’s Shaw Classic as well.

“Shaw Classic GIVE US THE CAR LEG PRESS 2.0”

Many people consider performing a leg press of such weight without any support to be dangerous, however, Mitchell Hooper encountered no challenges, as he is aware of what his body is capable of doing. In addition, Hooper has a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, which is why he spends so much time educating others on some aspects of many exercises. Most recently, Hooper explained how different types of barbells can affect the deadlift, as well as how to perform any Loading Medley and Front Carry.

As the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic is coming up, it is important to note that Mitchell Hooper has been competing for less than a year, but he has accumulated incredible success already. He has taken part in eight International competitions, winning three, and standing on the podium four more times. In any case, Hooper came to the sport as an experienced athlete, as he had previously competed in powerlifting and ran a marathon.
