Gracing prestigious events such as the New York Pro, Pittsburgh Pro, and Atlanta Pro, Lia’s competitive spirit combined with her shape and conditioning turned her into a divisional mainstay, which made her loss even more challenging to accept for her fans around the world.

“Sad news 📰 in the bodybuilding world. @krissy_with_gunz_ifbbpro has just passed away at only age 39 😢. Our condolences go out to her friends and family.
She just competed this summer taking a 3 place at Atlanta pro . She just moved to USA from Australia to get her bodybuilding career started. RIP . #rip#” shared Aj.kellyrobert
In one of her final interviews before her passing, the Australian native discussed some of the inherent challenges that came about during her bodybuilding contest preps. Specifically, she revealed that diuretics coupled with sex before a competition might have affected the way her body was absorbing water and food.
“Also because you know, I’ll be fully honest… the day before I had sex and then you have a diuretic or half a diuretic on top of that. You know… and you don’t have the fluid to move the food through.”
“My coach had me on all these wonderful supplements like magnesium, Vitamin C, a multi, so I was healthy because I had the calories but there, I can see in that photo that I’m struggling to keep my midsection,” shared Lia.
Unfortunately, the bodybuilding community has seen a wave of untimely deaths over the past three years. Most notably, former 2018 Mr. Olympia Shawn Rhoden passed away at 46. In 2022, Cedric McMillan also met his fate at just 44 years old due to causes unknown.
The saddening trend has bled into this year with the immensely popular influencer Jo Lindner dying at age 30 from a suspected aneurysm. In addition, a string of other bodybuilders, including Ahmo Hight, Christian Figueiredo, Raechelle Chase, and Shaun ‘Dinosaur’ Davis lost their lives far too early in 2023.
With a concerning number of athletes passing away, stars like Kali Muscle and Seth Feroce suggest that steroid use is spiraling out of control. However, it’s crucial to note that Lia’s cause of death may be unrelated to performance-enhancing drugs
Aside from her contributions as a professional bodybuilder, Kristyn Lia trained athletes for over 10 years, offering insightful diet, exercise, and recovery advice. She was also revered for her unique and calculated posing routines, which turned her into an instant fan favorite during her career.
