Open Bodybuilder Martin Fitzwater is making sure his diet is on point ahead of the 2025 Pittsburgh Pro. On March 28, 2025, he walked fans through his 5,000-calorie full day of eating seven weeks from hitting the stage.
Fitzwater has quickly turned himself into one of the Open class’ biggest threats. He clinched gold last year at the 2024 Detroit Pro and took a close runner-up finish behind Nick Walker in New York. At his first Olympia show, he shocked the world, cementing himself in fourth place.
Despite the triumph, Fitzwater wasn’t done competing. He made a pitstop at the EVLS Prague Pro, battling Chris Bumstead en route to securing gold. This victory qualified him for the 2025 Mr. Olympia early. Now, his sights are set on winning the upcoming Pittsburgh Pro, set for May 10-11.

Meal 1
- 120 grams Cookie Butter Cream of Rice
- 1/4th Teaspoon Baking Powder
- Salt
- Egg Whites
- Apple
- 10 grams almond butter
- 2 scoops whey protein
- Ghost Energy Drink
Fitzwater started his day with waffles, complemented with a whey protein drip, which he picked up from Classic Physique bodybuilder Wesley Vissers.
“This is kind of something I stole from Wesley and the European boys, they make a whey drip, so we’re going to do that and drizzle it over the waffle, and it works as a syrup. This is one of my favorite meals I’ve been doing.”
Meal 2 – Pre-Workout
- 90 grams maple brown sugar cream of rice
- 4 rice cakes
- 2 scoops of whey protein
He heats his second meal for a minute and a half. The rice cakes cover his carbs, so he’s fueled and ready for his leg day.
“A lot of how I do is it by eyeball,” he shared.
Meal 3
- 2 scoops Blueberry Donut protein powder
- 100 grams Cornflakes
- Fairlife fat-free milk
To refuel after his workout, Fitzwater enjoyed cornflakes, Fairlife fat-free milk with protein powder mixed in.
“Fast digesting and easy,” he shared. “It’s protein and a little extra carbs.”
Meal 4
- 130 grams 99% lean ground turkey
- onions
- bell peppers
- Everything Bagel Seasoning
- Prime seasoning
- 97 grams of white rice
- Himalayan sea salt
- black pepper
- Optional: a little barbecue sauce
Fitzwater’s top tips for cooking: knowing how to season, not overcooking food, and being patient but attentive.
“It’s really just as simple as that. Most cooking honestly guys, is one about knowing how to season things, two about not overcooking things so you don’t cook all the moisture out of it and make it really dry and just cooking things with love. Being patient with it, standing over the stove, watching it, I think is really really important.”
Meal 5
- 97 grams white rice
- 130 grams 99% lean ground turkey
- 20 grams almond butter
He cooked the turkey for less than 10 minutes and sat down for his fifth meal of the day.
“You’re only going to get better at cooking by cooking. So just get in the kitchen guys, start messing around and see what you like best.”
Meal 6
- 97 grams white rice
- 130 grams of 99% lean ground turkey
- 20 grams almond butter
Fitzwater prepared this meal for the middle of the night when he gets hungry.
“Like I said, today was a fat-burning day anyway. So a little bit less calories is going to be okay. This isn’t something I try to let happen very often. Like I said, I just got behind today. Tomorrow, we’ll get started and we won’t be as rundown; it’s a rest day. So, we’ll make sure to get all this food in.”
Talks of whether Fitzwater can defeat Lunsford in Pittsburgh are heating up. Recently, Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray tackled the discussion. Ray made it clear that Fitzwater could definitely get the better of Lunsford in their rematch. He also argued that Walker should consider the 2025 Detroit Pro as a backup plan for his Olympia qualification.
Fitzwater is making sure he’s full and conditioned for his performance in Pittsburgh. If he is successful at the competition, he’ll have huge momentum heading into his sophomore Mr. Olympia appearance.
