Bodybuilder Martin Fitzwater made an enormous impact on the sport’s greatest stage despite being under the most pressure he’s ever experienced. In a recent YouTube video published on October 24, 2024, Fitzwater discussed his carb-loading process for the 2024 Mr. Olympia which helped him earn a fourth-place finish.
Fitzwater has steadily risen through the ranks as an aspiring Men’s Open Pro. He gained some much-needed experience in 2022 having tested himself against Andrew Jacked at the Texas Pro and Arnold Classic UK contests (2nd and 4th). However, his breakout year in the sport came in 2024.
Fitzwater shined en route to winning the first prize at the 2024 Detroit Pro, showcasing newfound conditioning and fullness. Then, he gambled on himself by competing at the New York Pro where he narrowly took second place behind Nick Walker. He used that showing as a launching pad for the rest of his season.
Martin Fitzwater Breaks Down His 3-Day 4,000 Carb-Up Process to Earn 4th at 2024 Mr. Olympia
When it was time to test himself against the best bodybuilders in the world, Fitzwater shocked the world on his way to taking fourth. He held his own against heavy hitters of the category including reigning champion Samson Dauda, Hadi Choopan, and Derek Lunsford. Peeling back the curtain on how he accomplished such an incredible peak, Fitzwater laid out the foods he ate to carb up for the event’s 60th anniversary.
“I ate 4,000 carbs in three days to carb up for my show and this is why I got fourth in the world in bodybuilding. Those 4,000 carbs came from rice, cream of rice, and rice cakes.
All clean food, a lot of food volume, but those are the necessary things I had to do to make myself look the way I needed to look to get fourth in the world” Fitzwater shared.

Fitzwater didn’t crack the top three at the Mr. Olympia, therefore, he must win a Pro show to qualify for the 2025 edition of the event. He has already announced his participation in November’s 2024 EVLS Prague Pro, which was won by Samson Dauda last year. If Fitzwater prevails, he’ll guarantee his position for his sophomore Olympia appearance on the horizon.
Taking fourth place in his first Mr. Olympia contest is no easy feat and often signals great things to come. Bodybuilding legend Phil Heath earned third at his first Olympia, so there’s no telling what kind of success ‘The Martian’ will enjoy in due time. Don’t miss his next show on November 16-17 in Prague, Czech Republic!
