Classic Physique standout Mike Sommerfeld is attacking preparations for the Mr. Olympia from every angle. In a recent YouTube video shared on June 12, 2025, he discussed his mindset heading into October and tackled two push day training sessions in one day.

Mike Sommerfeld has his sights set on the Classic Physique Olympia title. In 2024, he pushed Chris Bumstead but still walked away in second place. With ‘Cbum’ retiring from the sport, the title is up for grabs, and Sommerfeld plans to become only the fourth athlete ever to earn the honor.

In March, Sommerfeld won the 2025 Arnold Classic title, defeating defending champion Wesley Vissers and runner-up Logan Franklin. Ahead of his next performance, he’s focused on muscle growth and believes two-a-days might be the key to unlocking an even more dominant physique.

Mike Sommerfeld Smokes 2 Push Workouts In 1 Day During 2025 Olympia Prep

Below, Sommerfeld detailed his workouts and exercise selections, found in his latest YouTube video:

Workout 1

  • Cable Flies
  • Hammer Strength Incline Press
  • Flat Press Dumbbell Press

During his first workout of the day, Sommerfeld revealed that his strength is almost back to what it was when he prepped last year around this time.

“I expected to be a little bit weaker, but I’m really close to my old preparation weights last year. That was actually 42 and a half each side, deep stretch,” Sommerfeld shared.

“My power is actually not dropping too much. In other words, it’s like 30 percent from first to last set which is absolutely amazing.”

Workout 2

  • Overhead Press
  • Cable Side Laterals
  • Side Lateral Machine
  • EZ Bar Overhead Extensions
  • Dips

Throughout his second workout, Sommerfeld emphasized that mental resilience is what will set him apart from other competitors when he returns to the Olympia stage.

“It’s not about physical work, it’s about what’s in here [my head]. Every set I’m doing, I’m walking around the floor and all the time, each and every step, I’m thinking about this is the set what will help me to win. To keep myself pushing and pushing, you get tired, set after set after set, but to stay strong, the mind is the hard part.”

He aimed for as many reps as possible during cable side laterals, focusing on his shoulders so he doesn’t recruit the chest too heavily.

“I tried to really isolate my shoulders and not use my chest as much,” explained Sommerfeld. “Most tension in the stretched position and as many reps as possible.”

Before wrapping up the workout, he assessed his strength levels:

“I’ve had four solid meals plus a post-workout shake and my strength is basically not going down pretty much. That’s very good to know. I usually train post-breakfast and then I can see that my strength is slightly going down and down set after set but now with more food in me, I’m stronger for a longer period of time.”

Sommerfeld isn’t just relying on his training to get the job done. Recovery and supplementation have been essential aspects to his latest prep. He recently broke down the supplement stack he’s using to reset his body after a rigorous prep for the Arnold Classic.

Having come close to gold at the last Olympia, Sommerfeld heads into the event as a promising favorite. The 2025 Mr. Olympia is set for October 9-12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
