Fitness division’s Missy Truscott is giving fans a more detailed health update following her injury at the 2023 Mr. Olympia event. In a recent YouTube video published on November 12, Truscott revealed she suffered two meniscus tears (one on each side) and an ACL tear as a result of her recent performance on stage.
“Hey guys I just wanted to come on here and give you an update about everything that’s been going on. So, this week I’ve had excruciating pain in my quad obviously and my knee, and I was really worried that I potentially tore my quad as well as blowing out my knee,” revealed Truscott.
It appeared Truscott, the then-defending Fitness Olympia champion was en route to another spectacular victory on the sport’s biggest showcase, especially during prejudging. When it was time for an individual routine, Truscott suffered an unfortunate injury and was unable to continue. Thus, one of Truscott’s long-time rivals, Oksana Grishina, pulled ahead, reclaiming her crown. This win was Grishina’s fifth Fitness Olympia title.
All in all, the event was a success, outside of first place, Taylor Learmont and Jaclyn Baker secured second and third, which guaranteed them a spot on next year’s highly anticipated 2024 Mr. Olympia held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The day she was unable to carry out her Olympia participation, she took to Instagram and gave her thoughts on the setback, promising to return better than ever. Now, with MRI results in, we have a clearer picture of her future.
Missy Truscott Gives Health Update After 2023 Olympia Injury, Calls Out Whitney Jones for Distasteful Routine
Having received an MRI on her legs, Truscott’s surgeon shared that she suffered two meniscus tears on both sides and a torn ACL.
“I had an MRI this week and yesterday met with my surgeon and he has informed me that I have torn meniscus on both sides, so two torn meniscus, and a torn ACL.”
Initially, the bodybuilding champion feared a quad tear, but fortunately, her apprehensions turned out to be unfounded.
“The quad is intact, so I’m extremely happy about that. I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel here. My surgeon is very confident I’m going to make a full recovery it’s just going to take some time. I have my prehab scheduled, we have the surgery in the near future and then I have my post-op rehab scheduled as well. It’s going to be a tough road here but I’m ready to do it. I’m ready for surgery to get back to the stage and be even better,” said Missy Truscott.
Despite the setback, Missy was in good spirits during the health update video. However, there was an issue when Whitney Jones chose to use a shark prop for her 2023 Fitness Olympia routine, which Truscott took as a slight considering that was her routine in 2022.
“I am in good spirits right now. But I want touch on something, about Whitney Jones using the shark prop in her fitness routine. It was extremely petty in my opinion. You wouldn’t see Chris Bumstead bringing a dinosaur to the press conference or Derek Lunsford bring a wolf to the press conference. I think it’s really beneath a champion to do something like that.”
“Although guys, it is just a Fitness routine, it’s – I think she tried to take a shot at me and totally missed. I guess we have a rivalry, I didn’t know that but okay. So it is what is it there guys. I’m over it. The only thing I’m disappointed in is the fact that I didn’t get to whoop her ass because I was doing that as you guys saw at prejudge in the physique round.”
“I’ve made a career out of bodybuilding and I’m so excited to see that the IFBB Fitness division is growing. We have a lot of really talented women coming into the sport and I’m just super excited to see this year how much it’s going to grow. I’ll be healing up so I can come back better than ever.”
Finally, Missy Truscott thanked athlete rep Bob Cicherillo for helping her after he saw she injured herself on stage.
“[Thanks to] Bob Cicherillo for making sure I was okay. Bob jumped into action right away when I was on stage. He knew that I was hurt. That it wasn’t just a fall. So thank you, Bob, I really appreciate you and everyone who has reached out already.”
The top three finishers from the 2023 Mr Olympia show in all divisions receive automatic qualifications for the next year’s event. Even though Missy Truscott was unable to secure a top spot, she is a former two-time Fitness Olympian, therefore she has a lifetime invite to test herself at the sport’s greatest event of the year.
Injuries can permanently change careers and shorten bodybuilding tenures but Missy Truscott has no intention of surrendering quietly and is already mapping out how she plans to take the title away from Oksana Grishina next October.
“It’s going to be a tough couple of months but we’re going to get through it,” added Truscott.
