Nick Walker Reveals New Head Coach, Crushes Push Day Workout

'The Mutant' discussed coaching changes, his weight, and pushed through a brutal workout.

Bodybuilder Nick Walker is making moves as he sets his sights on the next chapter of his career. In a recent YouTube video shared on November 7, 2024, he revealed his new head coach and walked fans through a demanding push-day workout. 

This is Nick Walker‘s bounce-back campaign. He had to bow out of the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest due to injuries and rallied back by winning the 2024 New York Pro against Martin Fitzwater. His dream of earning the prestigious Sandow trophy was halted once again after he was forced to withdraw from the recent Mr. Olympia contest. He and his ex-coach revealed that his body wasn’t responding to the rigors of prep and needed time to rest. 

Looking ahead to the future, Walker is controlling every variable within his power to mount a successful comeback. From revamping his training endeavors to announcing a new coach, fans are curious how his physique will stack up against the best in due time.

Walker named Kyle Wilkes as his new head coach, who will oversee his diet and supplementation. Jared Feather will continue to help Walker with his training. Wilkes has experience guiding a range of athletes from the youngest IFBB Pro, Anton Ratushnyi to the ‘Tren Twins.’

“I’m letting Jared run my training and also I’ll make the formal announcement now, Kyle Wilkes will be my head coach going forward.

So, I got Kyle Wilkes in charge of the diet and all that other stuff and Jared is going to be in charge of the training. They have obviously both been in contact with each other as far as getting on the same page with what they want me to do.” 

‘The Mutant’ revealed that his weight is back up to 283 pounds in the off-season. 

“We are making very very great progressions here. Weight is back up to around 283, so we’re in a good spot. I’m happy. They are happy. We’re going to keep this progression going. I don’t know if I’m allowed to announce my show yet but we already have a couple shows in mind. So I’ll wait to announce it.” 

The Mutant’s Push Day Workout 

Find his exercise selections, sets, and rep-ranges below: 

  • Incline Smith bench press — 5 sets
  • Decline press — 2 sets 15-20 reps
  • Overhead extensions (one arm at a time) — 4 sets 10-12 reps
  • Side lateral raise supersetted with reverse pec deck — 4 sets 12-15 reps
  • EZ bar curl — 4 sets 10-12 reps 
  • Assisted dip machine – 1 set 10-12 reps

Incline Smith bench press 

Walker explained that he’s not taking these exercises to failure due to the training frequency he’s implemented recently. 

“We’re going to increase this exercise by one more set and because of the frequency we’re doing, none of the sets are being taken to the ultimate failure,” shares Walker.

Decline press 

Taking the decline press slowly and pausing during repetitions produces added stimulus, says Walker. 

“When you do it in this fashion where it’s very slow and you pause in that hole at the stretch and try to contract hard at the top, six reps can be a lot of fucking stimulus.” 

Overhead extensions (one arm at a time)

Walker closes his eyes and uses visualization to maximize progress during some exercises. 

“I’m getting all the tension and contraction there. It’s a mental thing for me. I even sometimes close my eyes during a set and for me, that allows me to envision more of the muscle connection and I connect harder. Sometimes, when I’m doing one-handed things, and I touch it I feel like I just connect a little more than if I didn’t,” he shared.  

Side lateral raise supersetted with reverse pec deck 

Walker completed supersets using 120 pounds on the side lateral raise machine before moving over to the reverse pec deck. 

EZ bar curl 

Bringing the EZ bar up to his forehead, Walker methodically pushes through curls for a bicep pump. 

Assisted dip machine 

He finished off the workout with assisted dips before calling it a day. 

Speculation about Nick Walker’s next bodybuilding contest is brewing. While he’s yet to commit to a particular show, many fans believe he’s targeting the 2025 Pittsburgh Pro, which for the first time, will feature the Men’s Open class. Moreover, the IFBB Pro League announced that the Men’s Open winner will be awarded $100,000. 

Walker is approaching his training carefully to ensure his return to the stage. In time, he plans to formally announce which bodybuilding contest fans can see him at next.
