Ronnie Coleman Talks Deadlifting 750 Lbs Natural & Achieving 5% Body Fat, Says He’s Unbothered by Criticisms About His Health

Bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman is still offering fans a special look into his legendary career, defined by eight consecutive Mr. Olympia titles. On January 1, 2025, he discussed deadlifting 750 pounds naturally, achieving five percent body fat, and whether he harbors resentment against people who criticize his health following years of competing at the highest level.

Having captured a total of eight Mr. Olympia titles, Ronnie Coleman is regularly regarded as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. His freakish size, strength, and work ethic set the standard for mass and conditioning on the competitive stage.

However, Coleman’s extreme approach to training, which allowed him to accomplish incredible feats such as an insane 800-pound squat double and a whopping 2,300-pound leg press for eight, has had a lasting effect on his life away from the sport. In retirement, Ronnie Coleman lost the ability to walk without assistance and has had to endure over 13 back surgeries.

While many have criticized the bodybuilding legend for his intense training methods, with some believing they contributed to his lack of mobility, Coleman remains unfazed. In a recent YouTube video, he discussed topics such as his lowest body fat percentage, his strongest body parts, and whether the ongoing criticism regarding his bodybuilding career ever bothers him.

Coleman bragged about how he got his body fat percentage down to 5 percent.

“The highest [lowest] body fat I was was five percent,” Coleman explained. “Ain’t nobody trying me. I finally gave up on that.”

‘The King’ revealed that his passion for working out made him look forward to training each day and led to him deadlifting 750 pounds naturally.

“If you have passion for something, you never work a day in your life. And I had a ton of passion for working out. A ton. And I looked forward to working out each and every single day.”

“I could deadlift 750 naturally,” shared Coleman.

When discussing his weaker and stronger body parts, Coleman explained that he was never satisfied with any except for his biceps, admitting that he took two years off from training them because he didn’t need to.

“Yeah, all my body parts. Exactly, never satisfied,” he shared. “There was one body part that I was satisfied with and that was my biceps. I quit training them for like two years.”

“I didn’t train biceps for two years because I figured, you know what, I’m satisfied with all my other body parts. I’m satisfied with my biceps.I got to work on all my other body parts. I can work biceps indirectly.”

Since he indirectly worked his biceps and triceps, he instead focused that time on his legs in an attempt to make them bigger by any means possible.

“Two body parts I didn’t train, biceps and triceps. I’m working them indirectly I don’t need it, I’m going to concentrate on everything else and that’s what I did.

For legs, I wasn’t even satisfied with them so I started training them twice a week. I was doing front squats, hack squats, regular squats, I was doing any kind of squat I could to get my legs bigger.”

As for how Coleman takes the criticism surrounding his training and health, he is completely unbothered.

“Not at all [it doesn’t bother me, people who criticize my training and health]. Not one bit. You know that saying, sticks and stones break bones, words never hurt me, that’s me.”

In addition, Coleman revealed that he never believed in overtraining.

“What is that? I don’t believe in that,” he added.

Despite being retired, Ronnie Coleman shows no signs of slowing down. From sharing his favorite recipes from his days of preparing for the competitive stage to revealing how he is using pool rehab exercises and stem cell treatments to regain his ability to walk, Coleman continues to inspire his fans and the fitness community.

Rather than letting critics affect him, Coleman stays focused on the incredible accomplishments of his career, including the ability to deadlift 750 pounds naturally. He stands as a prime example of what’s possible when you push your limits and never give up.
