Sophia Ellis made a name for herself when she broke the European deadlift record of 230.5 kilograms (508.2 pounds) at the European Championships in Sweden 2021. That record, however, was taken over by new athletes. This did not discourage Sophia and instead made her push even harder to reclaim what she once had. Furthermore, it was clear that she was on the right path when she broke six national records at the 2022 BP British Classic Women’s Championships in April. So, she just waited to enroll in a competition sanctioned by the IPF.

The time finally came at the powerlifting section of the 2022 Arnold Sports Festival UK, which partnered up with the IPF. In turn, Sophia Ellis got ready and competed in the 76-kilogram weight class on Saturday, September 24th. This resulted in her once again breaking the European Raw Deadlift Record, but this time she managed to lock out 240 kilograms (529.1 pounds). This is 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) heavier than the previous record which Agata Sitko set at the 2022 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Sophia Ellis also scored a new British Raw Total Record of 527.5 kilograms (1,162.9 pounds). She also held the previous record, having totaled 525.5 kilograms (1,158.5 pounds) at the 2022 BP British Classic Women’s Championships.

“Still so hyped from the Arnold’s UK 🔥 Had the best time sharing the platform with so many amazing lifters.”

So far, Sophia Ellis has participated in over 25 sanctioned powerlifting competitions, along with garnering a lot of victories. However, she has never been in better shape than now, so her stats will just get better and better with time.

Sophia Ellis started her powerlifting journey as a way to combat bulimia and anorexia, which now resulted in her breaking a European record. She is now getting closer to Jessica Buettner, so a World Record might be a realistic goal for Sophia.
