CrossFit’s most elite athletes have been preparing and training relentlessly for the 2022 CrossFit Games, which took place from August 3-7,  in Madison, Wisconsin.  Nevertheless, all of that hard work culminated on the final day of the Games, when the Fittest On Earth® winners were finally revealed.

Throughout the entire competition, all eyes were focused on Tia-Clair Toomey, who ended up winning the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games and breaking the record for six titles. As everyone expected, the Teams division was dominated by CrossFit Mayhem Freedom led by the legendary Rich Froning. Freedom brought its best shape yet and made everything look smooth and easy.

  • Amanda Barnhart — 08:38.24
  • Kara Saunders — 08:45.35
  • Arielle Loewen — 08:49.08

Laura Horvath was unparalleled in this event, which was evident by the score difference between her and the runner-up, Dani Speegle. To make it more impressive, Speegle also beat the third-place finisher by a very significant margin.

Another interesting situation was that Tia-Clair Toomey placed 17th and gave Mal O’Brien a chance to come back. However, Mal did not take advantage of it, as she finished in 18th place.

Men’s division

  • Roman Khrennikov — 06:23.92
  • Samuel Kwant — 06:39.88
  • Patrick Vellner — 06:41.12

  • Timothy Paulson — 06:53.66
  • Lazar Đukić — 06:58.07
  • Jonne Koski — 07:01.54

Roman Khrennikov started off strong on the final day, having won the first out of three events. He also gained just enough points on Justin Medeiros to give himself a chance at the title. Roman could build some momentum from this and snatch the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games victory in the final moments of the competition.

Samuel Kwant also put up an incredible performance, which means that he is almost secure in the overall top 5. His direct rival, Patrick Vellner, finished in third place, so it is clear that these two will continue their battle throughout the day.

Workout 12 — Back Nine

  • Dani Speegle — 01:44.62
  • Kara Saunders — 02:05.83
  • Emma McQuaid — 02:21.70

As the last workout of the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games got underway, it became clear who would win the women’s division, as Tia-Clair Toomey’s lead over Mal O’Brien grew to 141 points. With only 100 points at stake for the next event, there was no way Tia-Clair would miss out on taking home the trophy.

Men’s Division

  • Ricky Garard — 02:17.67
  • Samuel Kwant — 01:39.63
  • Jeffrey Adler — 01:17.40

  • Samuel Kwant — 01:39.63
  • Roman Khrennikov — 01:43.93
  • Patrick Vellner — 01:45.72
  • Jayson Hopper — 01:52.14
  • Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson — 01:53.77
  • Travis Mayer — 01:56.50

Ricky Garard’s performance echoed the first two days, but it was too late. Medeiros and Khrennikov were the front runners, so Garard was forced to take bronze.

Workout 13 — Jackie Pro

For time:

  • 1,000-m row
  • 50 thrusters
  • 30 bar muscle-ups

Women: 65 lb

  • Kara Saunders — 08:35.97
  • Mallory O’Brien — 08:45.58
  • Laura Horvath — 08:46.72
  • Haley Adams — 08:56.87
  • Danielle Brandon — 09:10.18
  • Gabriela Migała — 09:28.66
  • Jacqueline Dahlstrøm — 09:29.65
  • Karin Freyová — 09:31.77
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 09:47.28

Although Tia-Clair Toomey already won the competition, other athletes still had a lot to play for. Most notably, Laura Horvath’s victory over Danielle Brandon meant that Horvath would finish in third place in the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games.

Men’s division

  • Lazar Đukić — 07:59.70
  • Roman Khrennikov — 08:09.71
  • Cole Sager — 08:10.64
  • Justin Medeiros — 08:26.34
  • Samuel Kwant — 08:26.73
  • Jeffrey Adler — 08:27.51
  • Jonne Koski — 08:32.94
  • Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson — 08:36.85
  • Willy Georges — 08:40.91
  • Noah Ohlsen — 08:44.10

Justin Medeiros just had to keep up with the group in order to defend his title from last year, and that is exactly what he did. Roman Khrennikov gave it his all and finished in second place, but Medeiros did not mess up.

With one more event left, CrossFit Oslo Navy Blue and CrossFit Invictus find themselves in a battle for second place, with only a few points separating them.
