Several events on day one of the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games had to be rescheduled, resulting in athletes having to sacrifice their day off on August 04, 2022. So, the competitors will be a bit more fatigued on day three than expected, but that will only serve to demonstrate who truly deserves to be crowned Fittest On Earth®. On day three the Individual divisions are tasked with completing three workouts, only one of which has been revealed before the day started. On the other hand, there are only two workouts that have to be performed by the Teams division on day three.

Days one and two proved to be very interesting, as Mal O’Brien and Ricky Garard got up to an early lead. Tia-Clair Toomey unexpectedly slipped on day one, but incredible performances on day two allowed her to make up some points and come back to the top 3.  The team’s division saw CrossFit Oslo Navy Blue win two events and begin day three as the overall leaders. Additionally, there were some surprising results, as the heavy favorite, CrossFit Mayhem Freedom, came in third.

Women’s Division

  • Gabriela Migała — 33:34.67
  • Laura Horvath — 35:02.72
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 35:11.29
  • Brooke Wells — 35:13.89
  • Haley Adams — 35:51.51
  • Danielle Brandon — 36:05.00
  • Amanda Barnhart — 36:05.92
  • Kristi Eramo O’Connell — 37:12.19
  • Mallory O’Brien — 37:20.04
  • Emma McQuaid — 37:58.62

The start of day three already brought in some massive challenges for the athletes, as almost everyone collapsed to the ground immediately after crossing the finish line. Gabriela Migała won her first event of this year’s CrossFit Games with more than one minute to spare. Laura Horvath was the second woman to carry the Husafell up the flight of stairs, while Tia-Clair Toomey made a complete turnaround with a third-place finish. With this result, Tia-Clair became the leader for the first time this year.

Men’s Division

  • Ricky Garard — 31:54.47
  • Roman Khrennikov — 32:01.47
  • Travis Mayer — 32:16.22
  • Samuel Kwant — 32:47.67
  • Jayson Hopper — 33:04.11
  • Jeffrey Adler — 33:16.60
  • Alex Vigneault — 33:53.84
  • Justin Medeiros — 34:08.32
  • Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson — 34:12.77
  • Bayden Brown — 34:27.50

The fantastic Ricky Garard continued day three of the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games with yet another world-class performance. Ricky was not able to compete in the past years because of a doping ban, but he is now making it all up. Garard claimed his second event win with a time of just under 32 minutes and significantly improved his overall lead. The rookie, Roman Khrennikov finished second and also got his greatest event placing yet, with Travis Mayer rounding up the top three.

Workout 6 — Up and Over

3 rounds for time:

  • 12 muscle-ups
  • 25 jump-overs
  • 30 GHD sit-ups

Then,

  • 84-ft weighted lunge

Women: Jump 50-in log, 30-in box, 20-in Pig, lunge 125-lb axle bar

Men: Jump 50-in log, 42-in box, 20-in Pig, lunge 185-lb axle bar

Women’s Division

  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 11:58.92
  • Mallory O’Brien — 12:58.91
  • Emma Lawson — 13:29.56
  • Haley Adams — 13:41.11
  • Danielle Brandon — 13:41.83
  • Kara Saunders — 13:46.47
  • Matilde Garnes — 13:52.24
  • Baylee Rayl — 14:15.70
  • Paige Semenza — 14:30.20
  • Arielle Loewen — 14:36.73

There was no way that Tia-Clair Toomey would let any points slip on this event, as she excelled in every component. She had no one to match her, but despite having a massive lead, Tia-Clair did not manage to get away from Mal O’Brien who finished in second. So, the race for the top spot is still on. The 17-year-old Emma Lawson put up another amazing performance, which proved that her and O’Brien are definitely the future of CrossFit.

Men’s Division

  • Saxon Panchik — 12:40.00
  • Justin Medeiros — 13:09.31
  • Ricky Garard — 13:17.76
  • Samuel Kwant — 13:37.84
  • Noah Ohlsen — 13:38.20
  • Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson — 13:39.71
  • Cole Sager — 13:44.84
  • Patrick Vellner — 14:09.22
  • Uldis Upenieks — 14:13.72
  • Spencer Panchik — 14:13.97

Both Panchik brothers got into the top 10 of this event, but Saxon was more successful as he won it. Performing this event after the previous one was not simple at all, since both workouts were focused on leg and core strength. However, Saxon is known for pushing through the pain, which got him the best possible outcome this time. Justin Medeiros finished after Saxon and managed to overtake Roman Khrennikov who had his worst performance yet. Ricky Garard once again finished in third and did not give anyone the chance to catch up to him.

Workout 7 — Echo Press

For time:

  • 30/25 Echo Bike Calories
  • 10 block HSPU
  • 20/15 Echo Bike Calories
  • 10 block HSPU
  • 20/15 Echo Bike Calories
  • 10 block HSPU
  • 30/25 Echo Bike Calories

Women: 2-in deficit

Men: 3.5-in deficit

Women’s division

  • Alexis Raptis — 06:41.18
  • Tia-Clair Toomey — 07:45.28
  • Emma McQuaid — 08:01.72
  • Caroline Conners — 08:36.64
  • Dani Speegle — 08:57.34
  • Paige Powers — 09:24.43
  • Seungyeon Choi — 09:31.93
  • Alex Willis — 09:39.33
  • Lucy Campbell — 10:40.04
  • Thuridur Erla Helgadottir — 10:52.51

Alexis Raptis went full power from the start, which obviously worked out really well for her, as she won the event. Contrary to her, Tia-Clair Toomey took a completely different approach and started out easy. She progressively increased her energy output and finished second. With this result, Tia-Clair got a comfortable overall lead, so it is hard to see anyone beating her.

Men’s division

  • Will Moorad — 06:30.15
  • Jayson Hopper — 06:57.82
  • Roman Khrennikov — 07:02.22
  • Enrico Zenoni — 07:07.08
  • Justin Medeiros — 07:29.07
  • Spencer Panchik — 07:38.91
  • André Houdet — 07:44.44
  • Colten Mertens — 07:55.89
  • Patrick Vellner — 08:08.35
  • Guilherme Malheiros — 08:10.56

The final workout of the day changed a lot in the men’s division, as the usually consistent Ricky Garard placed 28th and lost the majority of his lead. Both Roman Khrennikov and Justin Medeiros managed to finish in the top five, so they made up over 50 points of Garard’s lead. Will Moorad turned out to be the best in the event, as almost everyone except him struggled to complete the handstand push-ups.

Their synergy on the synchronized muscle-ups secured them enough advantage to comfortably walk over the finish line. The second place of this event was occupied by another Mayhem team, as Independence finished two minutes behind Mayhem. CrossFit Reykjavik continued their momentum from day two and got into third place.

With a win in this event, CrossFit Mayhem Freedom completed a perfect day three for them. They took the maximal points available and went to sleep as the overall leaders. Although Mayhem Freedom excelled on day three, CrossFit Oslo Navy Blue lost no hope, as their second-place finish meant that Froning’s Team did not gain too big of an advantage. CrossFit Reykjavik also had their second consecutive third-place finish, which helped the climb up the ranks.
