A number of world-class powerlifters have already completed their 2022 season, having participated in a few competitions. Yet one of the most successful squatters of all time, Phillip Herndon, had unfinished business on the platform. That’s why he competed in the 2022 WRPF Freaks Come Out At Night, which took place on November 5th, 2022, in Baltimore, MD. Having totaled 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds) more than the second-place finisher, which also earned him a DOTS score of 580.139, Phillip won the men’s overall division.

Phillip Herndon had big plans at the 2022 WRPF American Pro earlier this year, but he dropped out of the competition after missing all three of his squat attempts. This mishap fueled his training for the past few months and Phillip now scored a massive 395-kilogram (870.8-pound) raw squat All-Time World Record in the 110-kilogram weight class.

Kevin Oak held the previous World Record of 390 kilograms (859.8 pounds), which he set at the 2020 WRPF Hybrid Showdown II.

Phillip Herndon’s Full Performance

Phillip Herndon weighed in at 109.4 kilograms (241.2 pounds) for the 2022 WRPF Freaks Come Out At Night contest. Apart from breaking the World Record, Phillip also scored new competition PRs in all lifts apart from the bench press.

Seeing that no man in the 110-kilogram weight class has squatted 400 kilograms (881.8 pounds) raw, Phillip Herndon is now the closest to doing so. If he somehow manages to add 5 kilograms (11 pounds) to his squat by the time of his next appearance, Phillip will achieve a record for the history books. However, Herndon has not revealed what his plan for the future is, so there is no way of knowing when he plans to compete next.
