Germany’s Urs Kalecinski is eager to strip the Classic Physique Olympia title from Chris Bumstead’s hands later this year. In a recent collaboration, Kalecinski joined bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler for a post-workout physique update 10 weeks from 2023 Olympia.
Urs Kalecinski quickly made waves as a Classic Physique competitor, courtesy of his slim waist, detailed lower body, and overall symmetry. His golden-era look and ability to pose gracefully makes him a dangerous competitor anytime he steps on stage.
In 2021, he cemented himself as a Tampa Pro champion. This victory earned him the right to step on the Mr. Olympia stage, which he embraced fully with a fourth-place debut. He’s only improved since and continues to test himself against top-tier talent.
Forging ahead, Kalecinski entered the 2022 Arnold Classic where he earned a third-place finish. A week after, Kalecinski claimed the Boston Pro title. When it was time for his sophomore Olympia appearance, “The Miracle Bear” improved again, having finished third, behind Ramon Queiroz and four-time Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead.

Given his young age and upside, many believe Kalecinski could one day become an Olympia champion. Kalecinski rematched Queiroz at the 2023 Arnold Classic but took second place. To sharpen his skills ahead of his next show, Urs teamed up with former four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, who continues to turn back the clock after transforming his physique for a fitness challenge.

At age 50, Cutler’s leg definition is next-level as he still has cross-striations in his quads just like Kalecinski. In addition to sporting deep separation, it’s evident Kalecinski has put on a considerable amount of muscle mass over the last season.
Kalecinski’s weight has become a hot topic recently. The bodybuilder spoke with Greg Doucette about his size ahead of his next Olympia show. During the interview, Kalecinski revealed he was weighing 270 pounds and said if he wished to make the Classic Physique weight limit, he’d have to lose at least 26 pounds.
The IFBB Pro League recently announced new alterations to the Classic Physique height and weight cap restrictions. IFBB Vice President Tyler Manion explained that these measures were taken to ‘even the playing field’ for athletes of shorter statures.
Ultimately, all competitors in the class, including Kalecinski, will be afforded an additional 2-7 pounds as part of the new rule, which took effect immediately (August 2, 2023). The new Classic Physique framework prompted Phil Heath to give his thoughts on the subject. Unless the IFBB told all athletes about the rule at the same time, he worries some bodybuilders may have received an unfair advantage.
