Former fitness Oympia champion Missy Truscott was on her way to the third Olympia win after the prejudging for the 2023 Olympia concluded. However, it is not over until it is over when most elite competitors are involved. Truscott suffered a severe injury that stopped her from finishing the routine.

As a result, the defending champion had to pull out of the competition and let go of the dream to take home another Fitness Olympia title. Truscott’s fierce competitive rival and former four-time Fitness Olympia champion Oksana Grishina capitalized on the opportunity perfectly and walked away with the fifth Fitness Olympia title of her career.

Taylor Learmont and Jaclyn Baker occupied the second and third spots, respectively. All three of the top finishers will get a direct qualification to the 2024 Olympia. Rest of the competitors have to implement a plan of action to win Pro shows and earn their slots. However, Missy Truscott’s road to 2024 Olympia might be far more difficult as compared to the rest of the pack.

Missy Truscott issues a statement following injury and subsequent withdrawal from the 2023 Olympia

Missy Truscott detailed the incident and the rest of the events in an emotional Instagram video. She started out by thanking her fans and well-wishers for extending the support. She then explained the reason for injury and said:

“I hurt my knee during my routine last night at the Olympia. It honestly was a nightmare. I literally had the best prep in my life. My body was responding, I felt so good in the physique round. Even at the start of my routine, I was really going out there with a bang to put on a show for you guys.”

Truscott added:

“Something tore in my knee and literally brought me to the ground. That’s why I was on the ground. I didn’t fall. I blew out my knee.”

Truscott was taken to the ER for pain management after the freak injury. However, the former Fitness Olympia champion clarified that she would not have a full diagnosis until she gets back to her hometown, Seattle. She was planning to get back there on the same day to meet the orthopaedic surgeon and get the recovery process started.

“It’s gonna be a long recovery but I am up for the challenge.”

Missy Truscott concluded the video by congratulating Oksana Grishina for prevailing in the circumstances and promised to come back stronger.
