The 2023 Mr. Olympia finals in the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding division reached its epic conclusion on Friday night November 3. After some intense comparisons and a heated posedown, Keone Pearson took out Shaun Clarida to claim his first 212 Olympia title!
There have been a few champions since Flex Lewis‘ seven-year reign came to an end in 2018. Kamal Elgargni took the title briefly and while he won the 2023 Masters Olympia contest, he was forced out of this year’s Olympia due to personal reasons. Shaun Clarida picked up the big win in 2020 and suffered a defeat to Derek Lunsford in an attempt to defend gold.
With Lunsford committing to the Men’s Open division in 2022, ‘The Giant Killer’ succeeded in winning back his crown. However, with contenders Keone Pearson and Angel Calderon Frias eager to make statements, Clarida had his hands full.
Keone Pearson and Shaun Clarida put on a war during prejudging and the finals told a similar story. The freaky musculature of Clarida stood out amongst his rivals. With popping fullness and some of the sharpest conditioning of any division, Clarida delivered a memorable posing routine.
Meanwhile, Keone Pearson looked to maintain the momentum he picked up during prejudging. Pearson’s shape and aesthetics were crucial to his success on stage. He walked away victorious with his first Men’s 212 Bodybuilding Olympia title.
