Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler is proving yet again that age is just a number. In a recent YouTube video, Jay Cutler revealed he will be taking on the ‘Fit-for-51’ physique transformation challenge and walked fans through a back-day workout.
Jay Cutler is nothing but exemplary when it comes to bodybuilding. As a four-time Mr. Olympia champion, Cutler demonstrated his determination and commitment to the sport when facing off against greats, including Ronnie Coleman and Dennis Wolf. However, it was in 2009 that he established himself as a legend when he reclaimed his title by defeating Branch Warren and Dexter Jackson, making him the first bodybuilder to ever win back the honor after surrendering it.
Even though Jay Cutler is now retired, it hasn’t stopped him from maintaining his impeccable physique. Last year, Cutler took on his ‘Fit-for-50’ challenge to increase his fullness. After months of hardcore workouts, Cutler took to the stage guest posing at the 2023 MuscleContest FitExpo, where he showcased his incredible transformation.

Cutler hopes to present an even better look than last year by the time he finishes his fit-for-51 challenge.
“Once again, we’re going to showcase this is the transformation but I hope that this one and I plan and not hope, we’re going to have a better transformation than we had for ’23 in the fit-for-50. How am I going to do this? It’s continuous training of course, the nutrition aspect, cardio… is always going to stay in the routine because it’s going to help me utilize the food.”
“Also, the nutrition, in order to get in the best shape possible. I truly believe you can with training and the right nutrition get a certain amount of body fat. Remember, I’m not stepping on stage so I’m not trying to get striated glutes.”
In addition to sharing his 2024 ‘Fit-for-51’ transformation goal, Cutler walked fans through an intense back day workout.
Jay Cutler’s Back Day Workout
- Lat Pull Down Machine
- Pullover Machine
- Hammer Strength Isolateral Single Arm Low Row
- Bent-Over Barbell Row (Overhand Grip)
- Chest Supported Row Machine
- Back Extensions
Lat Pull Down Machine
To start the workout, Cutler begins with the lat pull-down machine, explaining that this particular exercise provides a different feel and is similar to doing a pull-up.
“This gives you a different feel than a lot of the bars. Obviously, a lot of stuff is attached to a cable with a bar like this. This swing gives a different feel. I can really as I get under it it’s kind of like doing a pull-up, pulling your chest to the bar.”
Pullover Machine
Moving on to the pullover machine, Jay Cutler emphasizes the stretch he is getting and shows fans that he is using his elbows to push the lats in.
“You notice the stretch guys. Ideally, this is one of the most efficient machines to use. People go crazy for this chain-driven pullover right? You notice, my elbows, I’m using my elbows to push to lats in. It’s not trying to take everything out and basically, I feel like my hands I’m kind of balancing but I’m pushing with the elbows,” explains Cutler.
Hammer Strength Isolateral Single Arm Low Row
With this next exercise, Cutler provides options in case you don’t have access to this particular machine.
“I’m going to hold one side and I’m going to rep and then I’m going to continue holding and I’m going to do the other side. I feel this a little different so I want you to try this at home if you have this machine or you can do it even on that hammer row, so hold both, do the repetitions, don’t let it just totally go.”
Bent-Over Barbell Row (Overhand Grip)
Cutler moves into bent-over barbell rows and explains that he starts with lighter weights before working his way up.
“Pretty self-explanatory. Little bit of a 45, overhand grip,” says Cutler. “Little light weight to start.
Chest Supported Row Machine
Next, Cutler moved into sets of chest-supported machine rows.
“Really get that squeeze.”
Back Extensions
Cutler finished off his workout with back extensions.
Aside from his own athletic pursuits, Cutler still keeps a close eye on top contenders in the Men’s open class. He recently backed Nick Walker to possibly win the upcoming 2024 Mr. Olympia against Hadi Choopan and Derek Lunsford. Nick Walker will be guest posing at the Pittsburgh Pro right before taking the stage at the 2024 New York Pro where he intends to earn his ticket to the Olympia stage.
Having conquered the sport’s greatest stage, Jay Cutler continues to inspire fans and new athletes even in retirement. Fans look forward to witnessing Cutler’s incredible ‘Fit-for-51’ physique transformation over the coming months.
