The countdown for the biggest bodybuilding event of the season is underway and competitors from all divisions are bringing new intensity to their training sessions. In a recent YouTube video shared on August 25, 2024, Classic Physique bodybuilder Wesley Vissers and reigning Men’s Physique Olympia Ryan Terry, joined hands for a pump-inducing push day workout in preparation for the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest.
It’s been a breakout season for ‘The Dutch Oak’ Wesley Vissers. Although his seventh-place 2023 Olympia finish left him off of everyone’s radar for a moment, Vissers quickly changed minds after upsetting Ramon Queiroz at the 2024 Arnold Classic Ohio. He used the momentum as a launching pad, having claimed gold days later at the Arnold Classic UK contest.
In light of Vissers’ impressive string of triumphs, fans and veterans of the sport have pegged him as one of Chris Bumstead’s greatest rivals. Packed with chest and shoulder striations alongside a golden era look, many believe he has a solid shot at taking the throne in October.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s Physique category, Ryan Terry has emerged from the shadows into a dominant titleholder. He shocked the world at the 2023 Olympia, defeating the then-sitting champion Erin Banks, as well as former three-time Men’s Physique Olympia titleholder Brandon Hendrickson for gold. With the target now on his back, Terry has attacked prep with a chip on his shoulder to keep the trophy in the UK moving forward.

Wesley Vissers and Ryan Terry Attack 2024 Mr. Olympia Prep With Push Day Workout
Find their exercise selections below:
“Let’s make this an awesome workout. It’s going to be a push workout with shoulders which I normally don’t train as much, but it’s going to be an awesome workout,” says Vissers.
- Plate Loaded Linear Shoulder Press Machine
- Primal Machine Plate Loaded Adjustable Chest Press
- Primal Machine Plate Loaded Adjustable Incline Chest Press
- Primal Machine Plate Loaded Pec Fly
- Primal Machine Standing Lateral Raise
- One-Arm Cable Overhead Tricep Extension
Plate Loaded Linear Shoulder Press Machine
In between sets of their first exercise, Ryan Terry discussed his weight cap with Wesley Vissers.
“It’s the first year for me where I have to make weight because obviously Men’s Physique never used to have to make weight,” said Terry. “I went on stage bang-on my stage weight last year, we were allowed 202 pounds on stage. So I weighed in two days before at 202 I went on at 209.”
Primal Machine Plate Loaded Adjustable Chest Press
They opened up on how their set and rep ranges differ depending on the stage of prep they’re in.
“Usually after a relatively heavy set, I think we did nine or ten reps, I like to go a little lighter and stick around that 12-rep range,” explains Vissers.
“We typically go quite very fast-paced, we go up quite quick in weight. We do a max set, and then we do same as that, we go 12-15 reps, just proper squeezing feeling it. So, not a lot of people train like that is what I know so when you said that I was like perfect.”

After guiding each other through intense reps on the plate-loaded adjustable incline chest press, the boys pivot to their next movement.
Primal Machine Plate Loaded Pec Fly
Terry and Vissers bond over sets on the plate-loaded pec fly.
“I just never use machines so this is all new to me, this,” said Terry. “Normally I’m quite hardcore.”
“When you train together with someone, and you’re always trying to be different but everything has a higher purpose,” said Vissers. “A pump was definitely achieved in this gym. Awesome lighting as well. Very good atmosphere, very good vibe, very good machines also. If you want to have a good pump and live in the area, RT Fit in Redford is the place to be.”
Primal Machine Standing Lateral Raise
To ensure a solid shoulder pump, Vissers and Terry perform reps on the standing lateral raise machine.
One-Arm Cable Overhead Tricep Extension
Before calling it a day, Terry opened up on how his posing has changed during sets of one-arm cable overhead tricep extensions.
“From last year, I changed my posing massively. I went to see Steve. I went to see Jim and they showed me from the back of what they want to see. I always trained with bodybuilders, Open class bodybuilders, so whenever we did physique updates or checks, we’re hitting bodybuilding poses.
So, I never really conformed to Men’s Physique posing. I was always struggling with it. So last prep, all I did, I didn’t do any of this [front double biceps]. All I did was that shot, [superman and back relaxed] but when I stepped on stage it was easy because all I practiced was those two shots.”
While the IFBB’s Classic Physique and Mens’ Physique categories differ in terms of what is required of each competitor, Vissers and Terry found plenty of common ground on their way to sculpting physiques worthy of the Mr. Olympia stage.
With both men tasked with making weight for their respective divisions, fans are intrigued to see how they improve from their showings last year. Don’t miss the 2024 Mr. Olympia, set to take over Las Vegas, Nevada for its 60th anniversary October 10-13.
