John Jewett is feeling energized heading into the next chapter of his career following the 2024 Mr. Olympia. In a recent video shared via YouTube on November 1, 2024, he walked fans through his go-to pre-workout meal that he implements during the off-season.
Last year was busy for John Jewett. Initially, Jewett started the season with a win at the 2023 Lenda Murray Atlanta Pro Show, earning his ticket to the Mr. Olympia 212 stage. However, Jewett decided he wanted to test his mettle within the Men’s Open, where he impressively secured a second-place finish during his Open debut at Legion Sports Fest Pro.
Since Jewett was set on competing in the Open, he decided that despite having a ticket to the 2023 212 Mr. Olympia, he would not compete. Instead, he focused on refining his physique for next year. John Jewett wasted no time in 2024, jumping onto the competitive stage and earning a third-place finish at the Toronto Pro. From there, Jewett dominated at the Vancouver Pro, where he not only placed first but also officially earned his ticket to the 2024 Mr. Olympia in the Men’s Open.
When it finally came time to take to the prestigious stage, John Jewett was among the sport’s very best. Considering the stiff competition, including Derek Lunsford, Samson Dauda, and Hadi Choopan, Jewett’s debut performance was one for the books. Ultimately, John Jewett placed right outside the top ten with an impressive eleventh-place finish.

Bodybuilder John Jewett Shares Go-To Pre-Workout Meal He Relies on in the Off-Season
With years of experience under his belt, John Jewett is sharing his tips and tricks with other aspiring athletes. In his latest effort, Jewett took to YouTube, where he walked fans through his pre-workout meal during the off-season.
Jewett first explains why it is important to plan satisfying meals instead of relying on basic foods, such as chicken and broccoli.
“This is how you make bodybuilding really sustainable. I’ve been bodybuilding for 12 years now, so if you think you are just going to eat basic chicken, rice, and broccoli for every meal, you’re going to get burned out.”
“Sustainability is important. It’s not more hardcore just to eat basic foods, it’s hardcore to plan out nutrient-dense meals that fill all your targets for the day and you love and enjoy your food.”
Jewett’s Pre-Workout Meal in the Off-Season
- 25 grams of Oats
- 40 grams Seedless Raisins
- Salt
- Cinnamon
- 50 grams Animal Whey Frosted Cinnamon Bun Protein Powder
- 240 grams of Thai Jasmine White Rice
- 20 grams Organic Beet Root Powder (Beverage)
While preparing his pre-workout meal, Jewett explains the importance of all the ingredients he adds.
“We have our rice in. Last thing to do is just mix it together. I know for some people are like oats and rice that’s so weird but remember, I’m like post-show so you like weird texture things when you’re been prepping for so long.
It’s the texture differences of the creaminess of the oatmeal, the little bit of rice that’s chewy that’s in there, and the dry raisins give you a lot of different textures and feels when you’re eating it. It makes it an enjoyable meal. This is how you make bodybuilding really sustainable. I’ve been body-building for 12 years now. If you think you’re just going to eat basic chicken, rice, and broccoli for every meal, you’re going to get burned out” Jewett said.
Nutrition isn’t all that John Jewett shares with his fans. Before the 2024 Mr. Olympia, Jewett broke down his three favorite back exercises for muscle growth, which included lat-bias pulldowns, lat-bias rows, and upper back rows.
“These are three primary ones that could make a very comprehensive back workout. And when we’re talking about back, we’re going to focus on the lats, traps, rear delts, rhomboids, and all the other smaller musculature that surrounds that part of the back”
The 2024 bodybuilding season was eventful as well as successful for John Jewett after recently switching to the Men’s Open. Jewett is staying focused on his fitness and health even in the off-season to come back better than ever in 2025.
