Even in retirement, Rich Gaspari remains unstoppable, continuously redefining his limits within the gym. In a recent Instagram post shared on January 17, 2025, Gaspari flaunted his insane abs at 61 while urging his followers not to let age stand in the way of staying in shape.
As a bodybuilding veteran who competed in the 1980s-90s, Rich Gaspari set the standard in the Men’s Open Class. His combination of unmatched willpower, razor-sharp conditioning, and legendary striated glutes made him a formidable opponent on the sport’s biggest stages.
After becoming the inaugural Arnold Classic champion in 1989, Gaspari solidified his dominance and cemented his place in bodybuilding history. While Lee Haney ultimately stood between him and the coveted Olympia title, Gaspari still maintained one of the sharpest physiques in the sport, earned through high-intensity training similar to that of six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates.

“No excuses to stay in shape at any age. I feel great and training 5 days a week and still have my abs at 61. Don’t make age an issue to be in shape” Gaspari shared.
This isn’t the first time Rich Gaspari has proven that age is just a number. On several occasions Rich Gaspari has been hitting the gym with young guns of the sport, annihilating intense workouts. He recently joined Men’s Physique bodybuilder Sadik Hadzovic, where the two destroyed an old-school back and biceps training session.
While Gaspari is known for his intense workouts, he doesn’t neglect the importance of recovery. In the past, Rich Gaspari shared with fans how to avoid overtraining and highlighted that muscles grow when you rest.
“The whole thing is you grow when you rest. The thing is when you’re in the gym, make sure you are training with high intensity to get that muscle to go to failure because the more you can break down that muscle when you rest, it’s going to recover and grow. That’s a big thing that I stress upon people that if you’re training even if you want to increase the intensity of sets and reps, train on a three-on-one-off or a two-on-one off.”
Having decades of experience on and off the competitive stage, Rich Gaspari is a trusted source of knowledge within the bodybuilding community. When it comes to keeping in shape, Gaspari is a testament to the fact that age is no excuse and shouldn’t hold you back from achieving fitness goals.
