Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson have been involved in the biggest rivalry ever seen in the sport of Strongman. It mainly revolved around the Deadlift World Record, which Hafthor Bjornsson recently extended to 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds) at the 2025 World Deadlift Championships on September 6th. Well, Eddie Hall joined Mitchell Hooper for a workout, during which he revealed his thoughts about Hafthor’s achievement.

Eddie Hall held the Deadlift World Record at one point, having lifted 500 kilograms (1,102.5 pounds) back in 2016. Hafthor was the one who exceeded the record, beating it by 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) in 2020. However, Hall did not respect the conditions under which Hafthor performed the lift, which led him to undermine the record for years. This resulted in a number of interesting situations, including a boxing match, a tattoo, and many other interactions. However, Hafthor has now pushed the record to 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds), prompting a change in Hall’s stance toward him.

Eddie Hall revealed that 510 kilograms (1,124.4 pounds) is not the limit for Hafthor Bjornsson and that there is plenty more left in the tank. He shares the opinion of many, mainly because Hafthor made the lift look incredibly easy.

“For Thor, I honestly think that 510 he did is probably touching the iceberg. I think there’s more there. And I’ve got to respect that. And I do respect that, you know, and I’ll always respect that.”

Eddie Hall made his thoughts clear, praising Hafthor Bjornsson for his strength and career. He wanted to make it clear that he respects Hafthor’s Deadlift World Record and prove that, despite all of the issues that the two have had in previous years, Eddie is not bitter in regard to the situation.

“We may not see eye to eye as a person, but I’ll always respect what he can do and that he is strong. I’ll never deny that. He’s strong and he’s an amazing athlete. Can’t deny that. So, I give the respect where it’s due, and that’s what, you know, that’s the best way to be. There’s no point in me being sour. Records are made to be broken. They’re not meant to stand forever.”

Eddie Hall then talked about his own achievement, being the first man in history to deadlift 500 kilograms (1,102.3 pounds). He believes that the progression of the World Record would not be the same if he hadn’t decided to lift half a ton, even when no one believed it was possible.

“It’s me that set that target and then everyone’s pounced on it like, ‘Wow, 500 is possible.’ It’s the torchbearer in a way. You sort of set the standard for other people to hit. Roger Bannister, the first person to run a 4-minute mile. No one was close. I think the closest was like 10 seconds away. Roger Bannister: ‘I’m going to run a mile in 4 minutes.’ Everybody said, ‘He’ll never do it.’ He went and did it.”

Eddie Hall’s stance about Hafthor Bjornsson has changed drastically after the recent Deadlift World Record. He now talks with respect toward Hafthor, which could hopefully lead to some exciting moments between the two in the future. Both men hold a place in the history of Strongman, being the only two men to deadlift half a ton or more.
