Actor Michael Jai White continues to prioritize training and building muscle. In a recent YouTube video from May 13, 2026, he discussed his longevity, training demands at 58, and his favorite types of workouts.

White established himself as a top actor in Hollywood, known for his command of mixed martial arts. His breakout moment came back when he starred in the 1995 HBO hit Tyson. Having portrayed the heavyweight boxing great, White had a massive challenge on his hands. He had to balance muscle building with boxing drills, which turned into one of his career’s biggest tests.

He also captained the lead role in Spawn, where he played Al Simmons, a skilled government assassin. White has been open about what it took to prepare for these roles. Now, he’s adding insight into how he’s maintained his physique well into his fifties.

“You don’t even have to try to sell somebody on discipline if they’re in their 60s and they’re in shape. Yeah. Like, like Stallone, come on. Like, he’s playing a character. Well, how hard does he have to try to be believable as a badass at damn near 80? Cuz he is a badass at 80. Yeah. You know, there’s no there’s he doesn’t have to act.”

He emphasized that training is a right, even though some find it laborious.

“Training is a right. A lot of people look at it as like a chore. It is a right, man. I get to do it. … I do not feel better in life if I don’t train,” he said

According to White, nothing on Earth provides you with more time than fitness training. Without it, he believes individuals risk a shorter, lower quality of life.

“It shouldn’t be a chore. There’s nothing on earth that gives you more time than fitness training. It gives you more time on this earth and at a higher quality of life. So if you don’t spend the time, you’ll probably have less time and a worse quality.”

Admittedly, he’s learned to listen to his body and can’t work out like he used to. Without consistent training, White said he feels off:

“Sometimes I can’t train as much,” he shared. “Now, I’m gonna let my body heal and everything else, but in anticipation of when I’m done, I’m gonna start hitting two-a-days and feeling at my best. I do not feel at my best when I can’t train consistently.”

As for his favorite workout, he shared that hitting the bag or track-type running sessions have become his go-to options.

“I love hitting things. Hitting the bag and things like that, you forget you’re working out. I tend to do fitness training to enhance my physique and my balance.

I still do that [body part splits]. This is a leg day. This is a back day. I usually follow up with some type of cardio… My favorite workouts are actually track-type workouts, running, and sprinting.”

Michael Jai White isn’t the only top-grossing actor to break down his current fitness routine. Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman is still pushing himself to new limits at 57. He recently showcased his trap bar deadlift strength during a tough workout.

White continues to inspire the next generation of actors and lifters on the horizon. He stresses that training is a privilege people should take advantage of because it can help extend their lifespan.
